Senior General Ledger Accountant
Waitsfield and Champlain Valley Telecom, a Vermont based telecommunications solutions provider, located in central Vermont, is seeking qualified Senior General Ledger Accountant to join our team in our Waitsfield Service Area. Responsibilities include ensuring the data integrity of organization’s general ledgers, maintaining accurate records and reports, and reconciling the same to the general ledger on a monthly basis.
Hours of Operation: Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Hourly Wage Range: $40.99 - $48.44
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs analysis of general ledger accounts as assigned. Reviews entries, verifies amounts, compiles and compares balances to subsidiary records. Reconciles various accounts on a monthly basis. Additionally, responsible for assisting in the preparation of monthly financial statements.
Gathers data and performs moderately complex calculations in preparation of recurring monthly internal financial statements, monthly allocations, and various regulatory agency reports.
Coordinates with various Company departments and with independent auditors preparing requested materials for the Company’s annual financial audit, cost studies, and regulatory filings.
Coordinates annual expense budgets by analyzing historical and current expenditures and revenue for assigned accounts. Distributes quarterly expense budget reports to leadership.
Processes weekly payroll and ensures the accuracy of tax deposits and returns. Reconciles payroll accounts on a monthly basis. Maintains accuracy of payroll-related records consistent with Company policies and regulatory requirements. Additionally, serves as a backup for interexchange billing and accounts payable functions.
Participates in the development of general ledger accounting policies, procedures, and budgets.
Physical Demands/ Work Environment:
Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Primarily sedentary work with frequent periods of sitting and occasional period of walking, standing, and crouching.
Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust and temperature.
Moderate to extended viewing of multiple computer screens simultaneously.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting plus a minimum of 3 – 10 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of advanced accounting principles in order to prepare reports and monthly reconciliations required.
General understanding of telecommunications operations, terminology, procedures, equipment, regulatory requirements and customer concerns preferred.
Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the Accounting field through a variety of mediums including books, professional journals and other literature, as well as attending seminars and conferences. Responsible for gaining appropriate training and skills to assume expanded job responsibilities.
Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills demonstrating the ability to communicate effectively with team members, partners, vendors, and customers including the ability to interact effectively in sensitive and/or complex situations. Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and proprietary information.
Demonstrated strong organizational and multi-tasking skills required in order to manage multiple tasks and/or projects with competing priorities and deadlines. Must possess critical thinking skills, attention to detail, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive, friendly attitude.
Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word plus the ability to learn and apply new software as required.
Valid driver’s license.
