About Us
We're a growing family of companies in the Raleigh/Wake Forest market: a residential home building and development company, a cabinet company with a builder-facing showroom, a coaching/education business, and a portfolio of rental properties. We're building something bigger, including plans for a new combined showroom, design center, and office in the near future and we need one sharp, trustworthy accounting professional to own the books across all of it.
The Role
This is a full-charge position. You won't be one of five people in an accounting department, you'll BE the accounting department, working directly with the owners. You'll take over day-to-day financial operations across multiple entities, clean up historical books, and become the go-to person our CPA and lenders rely on.
What You'll Do
- Own daily bookkeeping in QuickBooks across four entities (home building, cabinets, coaching, rentals)
- Perform historical cleanup and catch-up work on prior-year books
- Manage accounts payable: vendor bills, subcontractor payments, purchase orders, and material purchasing
- Manage accounts receivable: customer invoicing, draw requests, collections, and deposits
- Reconcile bank, credit card, and loan accounts monthly for every entity
- Track job costs on active construction projects and keep budgets vs. actuals current
- Prepare clean year-end packages for our CPA (trial balances, supporting schedules, 1099s)
- Assemble financial documents for construction and development lenders (personal financial statements, entity financials, draw packages, loan applications) and serve as a point of contact during financing
- Maintain organized digital records: receipts, contracts, insurance certificates, lien waivers
- Help build and document our accounting processes as we grow
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of full-charge bookkeeping or accounting experience (small business environment preferred)
- Strong QuickBooks skills (Online and/or Desktop) you can clean up messy books, not just maintain tidy ones
- Construction or real estate accounting experience strongly preferred: job costing, construction draws, WIP, lien waivers
- Experience managing books for multiple entities with intercompany transactions
- Comfortable working with lenders, CPAs, and vendors, professional, responsive, organized
- Self-directed: you can build order out of chaos without daily supervision
- High integrity and discretion, you'll have access to sensitive financial information (background check required)
Nice to Have
- Associate's or Bachelor's in Accounting
- Experience preparing lender/draw packages for construction loans
- Familiarity with 1099 subcontractor compliance in construction
- Experience with payroll processing
