Overview
We are a small nonprofit school formed to cater to students who struggle in traditional settings. Our families file as "home instruction" with the state, but we operate as a private school, with dedicated, on-site educators who see to every aspect of instruction including core academics, physical education, and enrichment classes in the arts, technology, woodworking, and more.
About This Position
- 9-month position, September-May, $10,000/year
- Monday-Thursday, 9am-12:30pm
- 6 weeks off throughout the school year: fall (1 week), winter (3 weeks), and spring (2 weeks)
- Collaboration regarding curriculum with the director and cohorts
- Freedom to adjust/change classroom structure, pedagogy, and curriculum to best serve students
- Student level: ages 5-8, grades K-3
- Think 1970s kindergarten - lots of outdoor/free exploration; working with phonics; reading and telling stories; learning numbers and basic math concepts (addition, subtraction, skip-counting, etc.)
- Pre-planned curriculum available: All About Reading; Pathway Readers; Math-U-See, and more
- Compensation based solely on grant funding, not experience; please apply accordingly
Duties
- Develop and deliver innovative lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards across various subjects such as literacy, math, physical education, and the arts.
- Provide hands-on learning opportunities that enrich student comprehension and aptitude.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to create and implement personalized learning strategies tailored to each student’s needs.
- Manage classroom behavior effectively through positive reinforcement and behavioral management techniques.
- Assess student progress regularly using formative assessments and observational data to inform instruction and encourage growth and learning.
- Maintain detailed records of student development, IEP goals, and behavioral health updates to ensure compliance and support ongoing learning.
- Use learning technology tools to enhance instructional delivery and engage students in interactive learning experiences.
- Provide mentorship and support to students through compassionate modeling, one-on-one interaction, and instilling trust and respect to the classroom as a whole.
Experience
- Proven classroom experience in early childhood education, K-12 settings, and/or special education environments.
- Knowledge of childhood development principles and best practices for working with children of various ages and abilities.
- Experience designing curriculum and instructional materials for diverse learners including those who are neurodiverse.
- Familiarity with various methodologies including Montessori, classical, homeschool, public/private school curricula, etc.
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with parents, caregivers, and cohorts.
- Background in classroom management strategies.
- Prior experience working in non-traditional settings and/or a certification in education or related fields are a plus.
Teacher Aide positions also available: half-day, AM or PM, $5,000-$7,000 depending on funding
