The City of Kentwood Department of Public Works is seeking dependable, hardworking individuals to join our team as Seasonal Grounds Maintenance Assistants. If you enjoy hands-on work and take pride in keeping parks and public spaces looking their best, this is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience while working outdoors.
Reporting to the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor, you’ll assist with maintaining City parks, buildings, and public facilities through a variety of field operations tasks, including:

Performing manual labor related to parks and grounds maintenance

Mowing, trimming, edging, and watering lawns and landscaped areas
-
Preparing and maintaining athletic fields and park facilities
-
Assisting with landscaping projects such as mulching, seeding, and pruning
-
Operating landscaping equipment including zero-turn mowers, trailers, and power tools
-
Supporting trail, cemetery, and irrigation maintenance
-
Assisting with snow removal and seasonal grounds tasks as needed
-
Maintaining safe, clean, and visually appealing public spaces
-
Interacting professionally with residents and park visitors
-
Supporting other Public Works divisions on special projects as assigned
-
Following safety procedures and properly using protective equipment
Work is performed outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and includes active tasks such as walking, bending, lifting materials, and operating maintenance equipment.

The Department of Public Works (DPW) helps keep the community beautiful and functional with a team of nearly 30 full-time and part-time cross-trained employees. The DPW is responsible for maintaining the City’s infrastructure, which includes over 150 miles of underground pipes and over 155 miles of streets above ground, as well as the City's parks, grounds, buildings, and vehicle fleet.
There are five divisions within the DPW:

The DPW also offers brush and leaf drop-off services for residents at its facility each fall and spring. The DPW facility is also a Kent County SafeChem site.
