Description: Maintenance Technician - Carpenter - Class 4

Job Summary:
This position is responsible for repair and maintenance which includes but not limited to carpentry, low voltage, plumbing, doors, painting, roofing, concrete, snow removal and occasional school cleaning as assigned.
Maintenance Technician receives work orders of tasks to be completed and establishes preventative maintenance programs to maintain the school in a professional manner.
Reporting Relationship:
The Maintenance Technician reports directly to the Coordinator of Buildings and Grounds.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Acts as the District Carpenter/"Handyman". Responsible for the proper maintenance and commercial grade repairs including but not limited to: floors, walls, ceiling tile, doors and hardware, furniture, specialty equipment, etc.

Inspect and monitor the following systems for proper, efficient and safe operation: furnishings, walls, windows, doors, floors, etc.

Actively participates in completing and scheduling preventive maintenance work orders.

Responsible for maintaining, replacing and installing new commercial-grade door hardware.

Responsible for the physical plant low voltage systems of the district including but not limited to magnetic door hold opens, emergency lighting, exit lighting, security wiring, energy management wiring, installing door strikes, etc.

Responsible for all painting, painting schedules and painting priorities in the district.

Directs on-site maintenance personnel in repairs to building fixtures and equipment and notifies the Head Custodian or Coordinator of Buildings and Grounds when repairs require an outside contractor.

Must be willing and able to be on the call list for such things as; security callbacks, emergency repairs, weather emergencies, etc.

Maintains an adequate inventory of necessary carpentry, painting supplies and equipment, so the efficient flow of work is not interrupted. Orders, stocks and organizes inventory, tools and parts. Keep all tools and parts organized and in good repair.

Provide assistance in monitoring work of outside contractors or suppliers to ensure work is performed efficiently and meets job specifications.

Actively participates in Custodial and maintenance services, preventive maintenance, building cleaning, activity set-up, equipment checks, grounds maintenance and all other aspects of facility and site maintenance.

Installs all types of flooring and wall coverings

Performs responsive, routine, preventative and predictive maintenance checks, inspections and repairs (or coordinates contractor repairs) on determined facilities, grounds systems and equipment.

Monitors performance of the District's HVAC system software.

Follows all OSHA, Fire Marshal, MDE, EPA and all other regulatory agency laws, policies and guidelines and ensure compliance.

Perform other related duties as apparent or assigned.
Requirements

Valid Minnesota Class "D" Driver's License.

High School Diploma or equivalent, plus 2-3 years of relevant experience required.

Computer skills for operation of the district's online work order system and building automation systems.

Minesota Unlicensed Electrician certification within 180 days of hire.

Certified Pool Operator designation within 180 days of hire.
-
Special Engineers boilers license designation within 180 days of hire.

Certified Playground Inspector designation within one year of hire.
-
Complete Mini-Bus training within 120 days of hire.
-
Experience of commercial grade door hardware, closers and fire ratings.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Physical Requirements:
This position involves standing and/or walking 80% of the time. In addition, 20% of that time involves: twisting, bending, stooping, squatting, and climbing stairs. Another 10% of the time involves: push pull while sweeping or mopping. Lifting requirements are of up to 40 pounds, extended reaches of 10-15 pounds overhead and lifting of 50-100 pounds with mechanical assistance. Ability to stand and/or walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, and/or climb stairs. Ability to work in a variety of conditions and environments (e.g. dusty, wet, cold, hot, high humidity, noisy, indoors, outdoors, at heights, and in small spaces.

Hours:
6:00am - 2:30pm Monday - Friday
Must be able to work occasional nights and weekends to complete projects in unoccupied buildings as scheduled in advance.
COMPENSATION
Hourly Wage: $27.47 - $30.52
