Duties
- Install, maintain, and repair radio communication systems, including fiber optic cables and telecommunications network infrastructure.
- Operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks and power tools safely to access elevated or hard-to-reach areas during installations or repairs.
- Use diagnostic tools to troubleshoot issues within telecommunications systems, ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime.
- Perform telecommunications testing, cable splicing, fiber splicing, and interpret technical drawings or schematics for accurate system setup.
- Conduct telecommunications outside plant operations in accordance with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), adhering to safety protocols.
- Support fiber optic systems installation by handling fiber splicing, testing fiber optic cables, and verifying network connectivity.
- Interpret technical schematics and drawings related to cabling layouts, network infrastructure, and engineering troubleshooting support.
- Climb poles or structures safely while following safety procedures for outdoor work environments involving low voltage systems, LAN (Local Area Network), Ethernet, WAN (Wide Area Network), and telephony setups.
Experience
- Proven experience in field service roles involving telecommunications or outdoor network infrastructure.
- Hands-on operation of heavy equipment such as bucket trucks used for high-altitude installations or repairs.
- Strong familiarity with telecommunications testing equipment, fiber optic cables, cable splicing techniques, and network troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering troubleshooting documents.
- Knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) standards for outdoor plant operations.
- Experience working with low voltage systems including LANs, Ethernet networks, telephony systems, and power tools.
- Prior outdoor work experience involving climbing structures or poles is highly desirable.
