Job Title: Materials Handler/Forklift Operator & F-550 Delivery Driver
Immediate Supervisor: Yard Foreman and Store Manager
Role Description
Build loads, load trucks (company, contractor, and customer vehicles)
- Assist with maintenance of an efficient, clean, safe, and well-operated lumberyard
- Key “point of contact” with customers - provide excellent customer service
- Comply with all company policies and procedures
- Must comply with company policy regarding yard uniform: safety t-shirts, safety goggles, gloves, steel-toed and composite-toed boots or shoes.
Scope of the Position
- Lumber experience is preferred
- Requires close cooperation with Yard Foreman and Store Manager, drivers, and salescoordinators
- Work outdoors on uneven surfaces in hot and cold weather and occasionally in rain or snow
Nature of the Position (not all responsibilities are included below)
- Accurately pull and stage materials according to pull ticket for pick up or delivery according to delivery times and schedules
- Assist drivers with loading and unloading material for delivery
- Conduct cycle counts for yard inventory
- Properly operate and maintain all equipment
- Conduct pre-shift forklift inspections
- Understand and follow all safety rules, policies and procedures
- Clean up and properly dispose of all debris
- Problem solve and take initiative – be part of the solution and not the problem
- Other tasks as directed by the Yard Foreman or other managers
- Ready and equipped to operate F550 truck to make local deliveries, which requires only a regular license
- Requires DOT Medical Card – company will provide if you don’t already have one
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Lumber knowledge is essential and appreciated

- Ability to lift, unload, transport and position building materials as required:
- materials include 5-gallon pails weighing up to approximately 62 lbs.
- material bundles weighing upward of 115 lbs. Ability to follow safe and applicable methods to transport material from delivery vehicle, by way of stairways, elevators and boom operations, to the point of stocking/delivery
- Must be knowledgeable, trained, capable and licensed/certified to operate forklift equipment, if needed, often transporting heavy and awkward loads
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work independently and/or with limited supervision
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid and current driver’s license
SHIFT: Must be available to come in prior to store opening and work past store closing on occasion. Trucks do not typically operate on Saturday and store is closed on Sunday.
We are seeking a reliable and responsible Delivery Driver to join our team in Jesup, GA. The ideal candidate will be responsible for loading materials onto the truck, accurately pulling and staging building materials according to the loading ticket, and ensuring the load is safe and secure before leaving the lumber yard. The Delivery Driver must have the ability to work outdoors in hot and cold weather, and occasionally in rain and snow. They must also be able to operate on uneven surfaces and operate the vehicle in accordance with all OSHA and DOT requirements.
When you are not on delivery, you are required to help out in the yard, whether it's loading up a truck for the next delivery, assisting contractors and customers, or cleaning up the yard. This is not a stand-around position.
- Load materials onto the truck
- Pull and stage building materials according to loading ticket
- Ensure load is safe and secure before leaving lumber yard
- Represent Harris ACE Hardware when delivering materials: friendly, helpful, professional and respectful
- Work outdoors in hot and cold weather, and occasionally in rain and snow
- Able to perform demanding, physical labor working with and lifting different types of building materials, including sheetrock
- Operate on uneven surfaces
- Operate vehicle in accordance with all OSHA and DOT requirements
- Complete and pass safety, forklift, and driving exams during onboarding period
- Dependable, positive attitude, problem solver

- Valid driver's license
- Clean MVR for the past 3 years
