Duties
- Assist patients in selecting eyewear by providing expert advice on lenses, frames, and fittings based on individual prescriptions and lifestyle needs
- Dispense spectacle lenses accurately, ensuring proper alignment and comfort during eyewear fittings
- Operate optical laboratory equipment for lens cutting, edging, and mounting with precision and attention to detail
- Conduct eyewear adjustments, repairs, and frame modifications to ensure optimal fit and durability
- Manage patient records using EMR/EHR systems while maintaining strict compliance with HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies
- Perform basic eye health assessments including vital signs and physiology checks to support comprehensive care
- Process sales transactions efficiently using POS systems and cash register operations, including medical billing when applicable
Experience
- Prior retail optical experience or retail management experience is highly desirable
- Knowledge of ophthalmology practices, medical terminology, and anatomy related to eye health
- Familiarity with health regulation policies such as HIPAA and state healthcare regulations governing medical records and clinical confidentiality
- Laboratory experience with spectacle lens dispensing, eyewear frame adjustment, and optical laboratory procedures
- Hands-on experience with EMR/EHR systems like Epic or similar platforms used in clinical settings
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively about complex medical information in a friendly manner
- Understanding of pediatrics and senior care considerations related to vision health
- Basic math skills for retail math calculations, medical coding, and billing processes
