Infant and Toddler Teacher

Position: Full-Time, Year-Round
Pay: $17–$22 per hour, based on education and experience
Schedule: Monday–Friday; availability required between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Position Summary
We are looking for an experienced Infant and Toddler Teacher who finds wonder in children’s earliest discoveries and enjoys following their natural curiosity through an inquiry-based curriculum. This teacher will create a warm, nurturing classroom where infants and toddlers feel safe to explore, build trusting relationships, and grow at their own pace. The ideal candidate understands that everyday moments—feeding, diapering, outdoor exploration, music, stories, and play—are meaningful opportunities for connection and learning.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide nurturing, responsive, and developmentally appropriate care for infants and toddlers.
- Build secure, trusting relationships with children and maintain respectful partnerships with families.
- Plan and facilitate inquiry-based experiences inspired by children’s interests, questions, and developmental needs.
- Support children’s social-emotional, physical, cognitive, and language development through play and daily routines.
- Maintain consistent feeding, diapering, toileting, sleeping, and caregiving routines based on each child’s individual needs.
- Follow all safe-sleep requirements and other infant and toddler health and safety practices.
- Maintain active sight-and-sound supervision and required staff-to-child ratios.
- Observe children, document their development, and use observations to guide curriculum and individualize care.
- Create an engaging classroom environment with accessible, age-appropriate materials and opportunities for sensory exploration, movement, music, art, books, and outdoor play.
- Welcome and support children with diverse abilities, backgrounds, cultures, and family structures.
- Communicate with families about their child’s routines, experiences, development, and needs.
- Use software and program systems to document attendance, meals, diapering, sleep, activities, and family communication.
- Work collaboratively with teaching partners, support staff, specialists, and program leadership.
- Assist with classroom cleaning, sanitizing, laundry, meal service, and organization.
- Follow all Wildflower policies and Oregon child care licensing requirements.
- Participate in staff meetings, required training, professional development, and family-engagement activities.
- Perform other classroom-related duties necessary to support children and the program.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must:
- Be enrolled in Oregon’s Central Background Registry before beginning employment.
- Have at least 750 hours of qualifying teaching experience with infants and toddlers, Or a Step 6 or higher on the Oregon Registry.
- Hold, or obtain before the first day of employment, current First Aid and CPR certification covering infants, children, and adults.
- Hold, or obtain before the first day of employment, a valid Oregon Food Handler Card.
- Complete Oregon’s required Safety Set trainings before beginning work.
- Be able to communicate respectfully and effectively with children, families, and coworkers.
- Demonstrate reliability, patience, sound judgment, and a genuine commitment to nurturing infants and toddlers.

Preferred Qualifications
Well-qualified applicants may also have:
- A Child Development Associate credential with an Infant–Toddler endorsement.
- An associate or bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, child development, or a related field.
- A Step 8 or higher on the Oregon Registry.
- Experience implementing inquiry-based or child-led curriculum.
- Experience working in inclusive classrooms and supporting children with varying developmental needs.
- Bilingual or multilingual communication skills—particularly English and Spanish—to support communication with the families and communities we serve.
Schedule and Availability
This is a full-time, year-round position. Applicants must have availability for a scheduled shift between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Very occasional evening or
weekend participation may be required for family-engagement events, staff meetings, or
professional development, with advance notice whenever possible.
Physical Requirements
With or without reasonable accommodation, the employee must be able to:
- Frequently stand, walk, sit on the floor, bend, kneel, squat, reach, and stoop.
- Move easily between floor-level activities and standing.
- Lift and carry children or classroom materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Assist children with diapering, toileting, feeding, dressing, and other personal-care needs.
- Supervise children indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Respond quickly and appropriately to children’s health and safety needs.
- Hear and see children well enough to maintain active supervision.
- Perform routine cleaning and sanitizing tasks.
