The Veterinary Forensic Sciences Laboratory (VFSL) within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a detail-oriented, reliable, and motivated Federal Work Study Student Assistant to support both laboratory and administrative operations within a fast-paced forensic sciences environment. This role offers hands-on experience in a unique academic–forensic laboratory setting, providing exposure to real-world casework support, research activities, and operational workflows.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism, discretion with sensitive information, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative team. This position is approximately 10 hours per week.
Some key responsibilities of this position are:
- Maintain inventory and organization of laboratory supplies and consumables
- Assist with routine laboratory audits and quality control tracking
- Support scheduling and coordination of meetings, including preparation of materials and documentation
- Prepare, edit, and manage documents, spreadsheets, and internal reports
- Assist with daily administrative operations including filing, photocopying, meeting minutes, and internal communications
- Support coordination of VFSL events, trainings, and outreach activities
- Assist with data organization and mapping projects, including basic geospatial data entry and support using ArcGIS
- Perform other related duties and special assignments as needed
