Transportation Operations Manager – Agriculture
Southern AG Carriers is seeking an experienced Transportation Operations Manager to oversee driver performance, fleet operations, and daily transportation activities. This position will serve as the primary point of contact for drivers, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable service while supporting company goals for customer satisfaction, equipment utilization, and operational excellence.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience managing professional truck drivers and a strong understanding of agricultural transportation operations, including seasonal demands, customer requirements, and the challenges of moving agricultural commodities.
Essential Responsibilities
- Manage and support a fleet of professional drivers while building strong working relationships.
- Serve as the primary contact for drivers regarding daily operations, scheduling, concerns, and performance.
- Monitor driver productivity, safety performance, attendance, and compliance.
- Coach, mentor, and hold drivers accountable to company expectations and policies.
- Assist with driver retention efforts and promote a positive driver culture.
- Work closely with dispatch to ensure efficient driver assignments and equipment utilization.
- Monitor service levels, delivery performance, and customer expectations.
- Address driver issues, operational challenges, and performance concerns in a timely manner.
- Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and company safety requirements.
- Partner with Safety, Maintenance, and Operations teams to resolve fleet-related issues.
- Support peak agricultural seasons and changing customer demands.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of trucking industry experience required.
- Previous experience managing drivers, dispatch operations, or fleet operations.
- Strong understanding of DOT and FMCSA regulations.
- Experience working with CDL drivers and tractor-trailer operations.
- Agricultural transportation experience strongly preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build trust and maintain positive relationships with drivers.
- Organized, dependable, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
