Job Title: Seasonal Husbandry Specialist
Job Status: Part-time, Non-Exempt (20-30 hrs/wk), Seasonal, 3 months
Relationships: Works within the Bird Care Department, supporting full-time staff in Aviculture
and Bird Show Areas, may interact with the public.
Location: Tracy Aviary at Liberty Park
Compensation: Hourly, $15-17.00/hr, DOE
Schedule: Shifts are 7:30-4pm. Must be able to work weekends and holidays (shift hours will
range between 7:30-4 depending on scheduling needs)
Job Summary: Tracy Aviary’s Bird Care Department is seeking a part-time Seasonal
Husbandry Specialist to support an experienced bird care team in daily routine needs including
cleaning of exhibits, weeding and plant care, diet preparation, enrichment preparation and other
duties related to the support and care of the Aviary Bird Collection.
This is a seasonal, entry level position that will need the commitment of 2-3 months with minimal

Position Details:
Start Date: July 1, 2026 (or sooner if there is availability)
End Date: ~August 31 or September 30, 2026
Primary Duties:
- Cleaning of exhibits (including removal of feces, left over food items, crates etc)
- Raking, weeding, substrate removal or addition, and plant care
- Preparing diets that can contain meat and nuts (this includes preparation of feeder
animals such as mice and rabbits)
- Recording daily information on hard copy charts/forms or through various logging
systems through Google and/or data entry system.
- Other duties as delegated by Aviculture and Bird Show staff

Qualifications must include one of the following:
1. Completion of Tracy Aviary Aviculture/Bird Show Internship Program
2. At least 20 hours of volunteer work within the Bird Care Department
3. 6 Months working in a zoo, animal care, wildlife rehab, veterinary type facility with focus
on exotic animals.
Applicants must have the ability to work outside in all types of weather spending most of an 8
hour date, Workload is highly physical and will require the ability to bend, lift, walk, and pull
throughout the shift.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with birds and or exotic animals
- Experience working in a zoo or wildlife rehab setting
- Experience managing time efficiently in a fast paced environment
- Ability to pass a background check
Comments: This position involves physical work outdoors throughout the year in varying
environmental conditions that range from excessive heat in the summer to extreme cold in the
winter. Physical work requirements include lifting, bending, cleaning, use of non-motorized and
motorized tools, pulling of carts, carrying items up to a weight of 50lbs, etc.
