Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Executive Director – Youth Programs, this position is responsible for the daily supervision of program participants and assisting in the planning, development, and implementation of the YMCA’s Teen Leadership Academy, Youth & Government, and Youth & Family Nights. Candidates must provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment that ensures the success of participants. This position will lead and facilitate after-school and evening activities including, but not limited to, leadership development, community service projects, civic engagement, college and career exploration, academic support, and family engagement opportunities, while ensuring program activities align with the YMCA program model and mission.
Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong communication and organization skills.
- Experience engaging middle school youth in recreation, leadership development, service learning, civic engagement, college and career pathways, and other personal development areas.
- Skilled in general youth programs and group or classroom management.
- Exercise mature judgement and sound decision-making.
- Possess a collaborative and flexible mindset that elevates youth voice and provides opportunities in areas where the candidate may not have expertise.
- Customer service oriented with strong interpersonal skills, well organized, and multi-task oriented.
- Understanding of working with teens, group management, and group work.
- Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
- Lead by example, serve as a model of professionalism and competency for peers and employees.
- Ability to operate computer software applications as required.
- In addition, the following State of California testing requirements must be met:
- Successful completion of a pre-employment physical, including a TB screening
- Child Abuse Index and Fingerprint Clearance
- CPR/First Aid
Essential Functions
- Lead after-school and evening activities, including Teen Leadership Academy, Youth & Government, and Youth & Family Nights, as well as physical education, community time, college and career exploration, and academic support, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for participants.
- Plan, organize, and facilitate leadership development activities, community service projects, and college and career readiness opportunities for Teen Leadership Academy participants.
- Coordinate and support the YMCA Youth & Government program by guiding delegates through civic engagement activities, conference preparation, debate, and leadership development experiences.
- Plan and lead Youth & Family Nights that foster family engagement, strengthen community connections, and provide meaningful recreational and educational experiences for youth and their families.
- Assist the Director in the overall operation and supervision of the program while adhering to program policies, procedures, and standards.
- Develop and implement student-centered clubs and activities that promote leadership development, civic engagement, and cultural understanding.
- Attend all required staff meetings, trainings, and program development sessions.
- Ensure Teen Leadership Academy and program equipment, materials, and supplies are properly maintained, organized, and in good condition.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including attendance records, student progress notes, and incident reports, while providing individualized support, guidance, and feedback to support student growth and success.

Physical Requirements:

- Fine manipulation and simple power grasping ability required
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds
- Ability to drive and must have own car for business purposes
Qualifications:
- One to two years of related experience preferred.
- Minimum age of 21.
- Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications.
Pay: $20.00 per hour
