Job Overview
We are seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Meat Counter Service team member to join our dynamic grocery team. In this role, you will be the friendly, outgoing face of our meat department, delivering exceptional customer service while expertly handling meat products. Your enthusiasm for food preparation, safety, and quality will help ensure our customers receive the best products and shopping experience possible.
Schedule
Must be available for a 7 am start time on Sun, Mon, Tues, Wed
Duties
- Assist customers in a prompt and friendly manner with selecting and purchasing a variety of fresh meats, including beef, poultry, pork, fish, and specialty cuts
- Offer suggestions for purchases and ways to use products. Offer preparation tips and/or tastes and samples of cooked demo products. Help customers place special orders
- Operate meat processing machines safely and efficiently for grinding, slicing, trimming, and portioning meat products
- Maintain food safety standards by sanitizing workstations, tools, and equipment regularly
- Package meats attractively while ensuring accurate weight measurement using basic math skills
- Conduct visual inspections to ensure quality control and identify any perishable goods that require proper handling or disposal
- Manage perishable goods by rotating stock and monitoring expiration dates to minimize waste; maintain fully stocked, attractive displays, while maintaining proper storage conditions.
- Monitor cooler and freezer temperatures.
- Fill self-service case with product, using correct rotation procedures.
- Perform other tasks assigned by the Meat Manager or Manager on Duty.
Skills
- Proven experience in food production, food preparation, or retail store environments with a focus on meat handling and serving the public
- Knowledge of food safety management practices and sanitizing procedures to uphold hygiene standards
- Ability to operate meat processing machines safely and efficiently
- Strong customer service skills with a friendly and professional demeanor
- Knife skills and/or culinary experience is a plus
- Basic math skills for accurate packaging and pricing; experience in food industry or restaurant settings is advantageous
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Must be able to:
- Handle multiple demands
- Lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis and up to 75 lbs. on occasion
- Push, pull, and maneuver carts weighing up to 150 lbs.
- Work long shifts as needed (more than 8 hours)
- Work standing up for entire shift
- Receive product in inclement weather
- Operate a pallet jack
- Demonstrate dexterity with hazardous equipment
- Move shelving units on occasion
- Provide regular and predictable attendance
- Work in crowded, noisy, and cold conditions a majority of the time
