Overview
We are seeking an experienced Civil Foreman to self-perform underground utilities and earthwork on commercial construction projects. This is a working field leadership role for someone who can operate equipment, read civil plans, and lead a small crew through excavation, installation, and backfill.
This position is ideal for a hands-on foreman who takes ownership of their scope and executes work safely, efficiently, and to plan. We are looking for someone that can help our company grow.
Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment including excavators, loaders, skid steers, dozers, and compactors
- Perform underground utility and earthwork operations including:
- Manholes and catch basins
- Building pad excavation and grading
- Trenching, bedding, backfill, and compaction
- Read and interpret civil, grading, and utility plans
- Set grades and elevations using lasers or other layout tools
- Lead and direct a small field crew (1–2 workers)
- Plan daily work activities and sequencing
- Coordinate with the Superintendent or Project Manager
- Ensure work complies with OSHA standards, site safety plans, and company policies
- Maintain quality control throughout excavation and underground installation
Qualifications
- 7+ years experience in underground utilities and site earthwork
- Proven experience
- Strong background in stormwater systems, manholes, and large underground structures
- Ability to work independently from construction plans
- Strong understanding of excavation safety and trenching requirements
- Reliable, organized, and production-focused
- Willingness to travel to project sites as needed
Employment Options

Preferred (Not Required)
- GPS or machine control experience
- Commercial sitework or car wash construction experience
- CDL or experience moving equipment
- Experience coordinating inspections with engineers or municipalities
