Paratransit Driver – Part‑Time Work (Nonprofit Transportation)

Handi‑Wheels Transportation is seeking a dependable, compassionate Part‑Time Paratransit Driver to help elderly and disabled community members get to essential medical appointments. For many of our riders, you are the difference between receiving care or missing it. This isn't just a driving job. Our drivers build meaningful relationships with riders and make a real difference by helping people stay independent and connected to their community.
Schedule & Coverage Needs
- Wednesday: 12-5:30pm
- Thursdays & Fridays: 7:30-5pm
- Additional fill‑in coverage as needed (advance notice provided)
- Local routes only — Fargo & West Fargo
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate Handi-Wheels paratransit vehicles in compliance with traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies
- Provide safe, respectful, and compassionate assistance to passengers when boarding and exiting the vehicle
- Safely secure wheelchairs, mobility devices, and other passenger equipment
- Follow scheduled routes and complete pick-ups and drop-offs safely and on time
- Build positive, respectful relationships with riders while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with passengers, dispatchers, caregivers, and team members
- Remain calm, patient, and professional when responding to unexpected situations or challenging behaviors
- Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and promptly report mechanical or safety concerns
- Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable vehicle for passengers
- Complete required trip logs, incident reports, and other vehicle records accurately and on time
- Protect passenger privacy and dignity while providing dependable transportation that supports independence and community connection
What We’re Looking For
- Valid driver's license and a safe driving record
- Must be able to pass required background check
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently
- Patient, compassionate, and comfortable working with individuals with disabilities, seniors, children, and people with varying mobility needs
- Strong communication and customer-service skills
- Ability to remain calm and professional in unexpected or stressful situations
- Ability to follow schedules, instructions, and safety procedures
- Physically able to safely assist passengers with mobility needs, including operating wheelchair lifts and ramps, pushing occupied wheelchairs when necessary, and bending, kneeling, reaching, and securing mobility devices using tie-down systems.
- Previous experience in transportation, healthcare, caregiving, or working with individuals with disabilities is preferred but not required

Pay Range: $15–$18 per hour, depending on experience
