Organization Overview
The Immigration Project (TIP) is a nonprofit immigration legal services organization headquartered in Normal, Illinois, serving clients across 86 counties in central and southern Illinois. TIP provides legal representation, community education, and holistic support to immigrants and their families, working to ensure access to justice and community safety.
Position Summary
The Rapid Response Coordinator leads TIP’s community-based defense, education, and rapid response efforts related to immigration enforcement. The position is responsible for developing and disseminating “know your rights” and immigration legal education materials, training community-based Navigators, and building partnerships to strengthen immigrant community resilience across Illinois.
This role is highly external-facing and requires statewide travel, as well as occasional evening and weekend availability.
Key Responsibilities
Community Education & Materials Development
- Develop culturally responsive materials to educate immigrant communities about their rights, immigration options, and strategies to avoid deportation
- Design and support dissemination strategies including presentations, social media campaigns, videos, flyering, and tabling
- Ensure materials reflect current immigration policy and enforcement trends
Navigator Training & Capacity Building
- Train and support Community Navigators to deliver accurate immigration information throughout TIP’s service region
- Develop training curricula and toolkits to standardize outreach and messaging
- Provide ongoing technical assistance and coaching to Navigators
Community Defense & Partnership Development
- Build and maintain relationships with community-based organizations, schools, faith institutions, and advocacy groups across Illinois
- Convene partners to host “community defense” and immigrant ally workshops
- Coordinate regional strategies to expand access to information and rapid response infrastructure
Rapid Response & Public Actions
- Coordinate TIP’s role in community response efforts, including immigration enforcement alerts and related activities
- Support participation in community events, public actions, and protests in alignment with organizational priorities
- Collaborate with internal legal and social services staff and external partners on response strategies
Communications & Outreach
- Contribute to public education and communications efforts related to immigrant safety and rights
- Support media and messaging strategies as needed
General Responsibilities
- Attend community meetings, partner convenings, and interagency collaborations
- Maintain accurate records of outreach, trainings, and partnerships
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated commitment to immigrant justice and community empowerment
- Experience working with immigrant communities or community organizing
- Strong public speaking and training skills
- Ability to build relationships across diverse communities and partners
- Excellent organizational, communication, and project management skills
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital communication tools
- Bilingual ability (Spanish strongly preferred)
Working Conditions
- Travel throughout Illinois required
- Access to a reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license, and insurance required
- Occasional evening and weekend work
Compensation
This position is classified as Coordinator Level 1 under TIP’s compensation structure.
- Salary range: $43,000 – $60,000 annually

- 15 of community trainings, 110 participants reached
- 10 volunteer Navigators trained and supported, contributing 500 hours total
- 5 new partnerships activated
- Implementation of community defense workshops and response activities
- Procedural guides and decision trees for protest and event attendance created
