Seeking a skilled Mechanic / Automotive Service Writer with a minimum of 3 years’ combined experience to perform vehicle diagnostics and repairs while managing customer intake, estimates, scheduling, and shop coordination for a busy and expanding auto and machine shop. Room to grow with us
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on engines, drivetrains, brakes, steering/suspension, electrical, HVAC, and fuel systems.
- Complete preventive maintenance (oil changes, tune-ups, fluid services, tire rotations, front end alignments, inspections).
- Conduct test drives and verify repairs; document inspection findings and service recommendations. Communicate reported problems to technicians, track diagnostic progress.
- Welcome vehicle owners, establish rapport, gather contact and vehicle details. Record customer concerns, vehicle symptoms, prioritize safety or urgent issues. Explain findings and recommended repairs, answer questions. Provide status updates (calls/texts/emails).
- Schedule appointments, prioritize workflow with shop manager, and coordinate bay/technician assignments.
- Create clear itemized repair estimates and work orders (labor, parts, fees, taxes); explain charges and obtain customer authorization. Open and maintain accurate work orders, ensure completed work matches approved estimate, reconcile completed work and prepare final invoices.
- Identify required parts and supplies, order parts, manage backorders, and coordinate with vendors.
- Maintain service records, warranty paperwork, parts invoices, and update customer database.
Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years’ combined experience as a mechanic and/or service writer in an automotive repair environment.
- Proficient in vehicle diagnostics and hands-on repairs across common systems.
- Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
- Experience with shop-management software (e.g., Mitchell 1 Manager SE/One Flow).
- Ability to create accurate estimates and process invoices.
- Valid driver’s license.
