A 530+ bed acute care hospital serving the Houston Bay Area is seeking a CVOR Registered Nurse to join its cardiovascular surgical team. This facility is a Level II Trauma Center and home to an accredited cardiovascular program focused on advanced prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery of heart and vascular conditions.
Position Overview
The CVOR RN plays a critical role in cardiovascular surgical procedures, supporting safe and efficient operations within a high-acuity operating room environment. This position requires strong perioperative skills, attention to sterile technique, and the ability to function as an integral part of a multidisciplinary surgical team.
The role includes both intraoperative responsibilities and pre-procedure coordination to ensure readiness, safety, and clear communication across the surgical team.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain sterile field integrity using proper aseptic technique during cardiovascular procedures
- Assist surgical teams during CVOR cases, ensuring smooth workflow and patient safety
- Conduct pre-procedure patient assessments and confirm understanding of the surgical plan
- Lead and participate in surgical timeouts and safety verification processes
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and OR staff throughout procedures
- Serve as a clinical resource for surgical services team members as needed
- Ensure adherence to perioperative standards, protocols, and best practices
- Support consistent delivery of high-quality nursing care in cardiovascular surgery
- Contribute to a culture of safety, teamwork, and professionalism in the OR
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required
- Associate Degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred
- Current Texas RN license or compact state RN license required (Texas license required within 90 days if compact)
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- CNOR certification preferred
- Minimum of 1 year of CVOR or cardiovascular surgical experience required in an acute care setting
- OR nurses with 3+ years of experience may be considered for cross-training into CVOR
Schedule
- Full-time, day shift
- Options include four 10-hour shifts or three 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 5:00 PM)
- On-call requirement includes one weekend per month and three to four weekdays per month
