Custodian Responsibilities

- Ensuring spaces are prepared for the next day by taking out trash, tidying furniture and dusting surfaces
- Sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming carpets
- Washing and sanitizing toilets, sinks and showers and restocking disposables
Job brief
We are looking for a responsible custodian to maintain and protect our facilities. The external and internal appearance of a building reflects on the occupants. It is important for a custodian, or janitor, to be careful and thorough in working, cleaning and tidying the premises, as well as preventing vandalism.
The ideal candidate will be experienced in a custodian role focused on building upkeep. They will have great physical endurance to cover a large space. A keen eye for detail and diligence are also imperative in custodial maintenance jobs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Clean and maintain all common areas including lobbies, hallways, elevators, stairwells, restrooms, amenities, and service corridors
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors; clean carpets and entry mats as assigned
- Empty trash and recycling receptacles and properly dispose of waste
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, including fixtures, mirrors, and restocking supplies
- Dust, wipe, and disinfect surfaces such as handrails, doors, light switches, and common furniture
- Respond promptly to spills, safety hazards, and cleanliness issues
- Assist with setup and breakdown for building events or meetings when required
- Maintain janitorial closets and ensure cleaning supplies are properly stocked and organized
- Follow all safety procedures, chemical handling guidelines, and building protocols
- Report maintenance issues, damages, or safety concerns to the Engineering or Management team
- Support engineering staff with light duties as directed (non-technical)
Qualifications and Requirements
- Prior janitorial or custodial experience preferred (residential or commercial buildings a plus)
- Ability to work independently and follow established cleaning schedules
- Strong attention to detail and cleanliness standards
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks such as bending, standing, and walking for extended periods
- Basic understanding of cleaning equipment and chemicals
- Dependable, punctual, and professional demeanor
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers
- Must follow confidentiality and resident privacy standards

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.50 - $21.50 per hour
