Duties:
- Conduct ophthalmic patient examinations and diagnostic imaging to assist ophthalmologists/optometrists in diagnosis and treatment planning
- Operate specialized medical equipment with precision and adherence to techniques
- Gather and document patient intake information, vital signs, medical history, and ensure accurate entry into electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Assist with maintaining patient confidentiality by following strict clinical confidentiality policies and HIPAA regulations throughout all interactions.
- Provide direct patient care by explaining procedures, answering questions, and ensuring a comfortable experience during examinations.
- Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment, adhering to infection control protocols and aseptic techniques to prevent contamination during procedures.
- Submit pre-authorizations for prescriptions and procedures
- Coordinate with outside specialists as needed for referrals
- Maintain the cleanliness and stock for all exam rooms
- Assist the onsite ophthalmologist with cataract surgery patients.
Skills:
- Capability to provide compassionate and empathetic patient care regardless of age and ability
- Team player mentality
- Previous experience in a medical office setting, preferably within ophthalmology or optometry clinics is preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with ophthalmic diagnostic procedures such as eye refraction, tonometry, A-scan biometry, and the operation of ophthalmic imaging equipment
- Knowledge of medical terminology related to eye anatomy and physiology to accurately document findings and communicate effectively with healthcare professionals
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or EMR/EHR management tools for seamless documentation and data retrieval
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations and the importance of maintaining patient privacy at all times
- Experience in patient service roles that involve direct care, intake procedures is highly desirable
