Responsibilities
- Prepare, analyze, and interpret financial statements and reports related to property operations, ensuring compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and other regulatory standards.
- Manage general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and balance sheet reviews to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely payments and collections while maintaining meticulous records.
- Conduct bank reconciliations, cash flow analysis, and budget forecasting to support financial planning activities.
- Utilize financial software such as QuickBooks, PeopleSoft, or similar platforms to streamline accounting processes and generate detailed financial reports.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory compliance accounting standards such as SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) and LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit) requirements.
- Perform detailed Excel data analysis using functions like VLOOKUP, pivot tables, and spreadsheets to support financial reporting and decision-making.
- Support internal audits by preparing documentation related to securities law, governmental accounting standards, or non-profit accounting as needed.
- Assist with technical accounting issues including double entry bookkeeping, accrual accounting, and financial concepts related to property management.
- Mentor junior team members by sharing best practices in accounting procedures and fostering a collaborative environment focused on continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in accounting within property management or real estate sectors; experience in public or corporate accounting is highly valued.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial concepts, regulatory compliance standards such as SOX, and technical accounting principles.
- Proficiency with financial software including QuickBooks, PeopleSoft, or equivalent platforms; advanced Excel skills including data analysis functions like VLOOKUP are essential.
- Familiarity with LIHTC programs, governmental accounting standards, securities law, wills/trusts & estate law is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to perform bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliation, account analysis, and journal entries accurately.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and prepare comprehensive reports.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently under tight deadlines.
