Cypress Lake Animal Hospital in Prairieville (about 20 minutes from LSU area) is looking for overnight technicians. We are a very progressive small animal emergency hospital. Did we mention clinical experience is required? We are open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year! Every other weekend and rotating major holidays are mandatory. A skills test will be given as part of the interview process and pay will then be determined. We have multiple positions open with a variety of evening/night shifts available. After 5pm (on weekdays) and all weekend, we only see Emergency cases, so this is the perfect place for anyone looking to gain critical care/ER experience
ER Technician Description
Our Emergency Technicians are responsible for the care and treatment of unstable/critically ill ICU patients, triaging emergency patients and monitoring hospitalized pets.
Major Duties
- Triage phone calls or walk-ins, as necessary. Reviewing medical records as necessary to assist in those triages
- Perform appropriate patient restraint for examinations and procedures
- Understand most major illnesses and the appropriate treatment
- General nursing care such as: accurately obtaining and assessing patient vitals (temperatures, pulses/heart rate, respirations, blood pressure, etc.), auscultation of the lungs, prepare and administer parental nutrition.
- Perform general venipuncture, peripheral/central/arterial catheter placement and maintenance.
- Perform emergency procedures including but not limited to resuscitation with colloids/crystalloid fluids, establish and maintenance of open airway intubation, oxygen administration via ET tube/nasal/flow-by/O2 cage, administration of pharmacological agents under veterinary supervision
- Induction, surgical skin preparation, monitor and recovery of surgical patients for minor or major surgical procedures
- Admitting and discharging patients, client communication and education, answering phone calls and scheduling appointments
- Cleaning, stocking, general organization and maintenance of ICU/Isolation equipment and supplies
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to appropriately handle, lift and restrain animals (dogs, cats) and stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to perform veterinary medical procedures (i.e., administer CPR, draw blood, administer medications and fluids, and assess and triage patients.
- Ability to communicate well with other technicians and doctors regarding the needs of the patients
- Have basic organizational and computer skills (Avimark system) as well as good technician skills.
- Preferred: Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) or Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT). 2 years of recent experience in veterinary practice with increasing responsibilities
