Job Purpose
The Inventory Controller is responsible for maintaining inventory accuracy throughout the facility by performing inventory audits, cycle counts, material verification, and reconciliation activities. This position ensures inventory integrity through proper receiving, storage, movement, and documentation of raw materials, work-in-process (WIP), and finished goods.
The Inventory Controller serves as a key resource supporting production, shipping, receiving, and logistics operations by investigating inventory discrepancies, maintaining accurate inventory records, and ensuring materials are available when needed to support uninterrupted production and customer service requirements.
Essential Duties & Job Responsibilities
Inventory Management & Control
- Perform cycle counts, physical inventories, and inventory audits.
- Monitor inventory accuracy throughout warehouse and production areas.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies and determine root causes.
- Reconcile inventory variances and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate inventory records within ERP and inventory management systems.
- Ensure inventory locations remain organized and properly identified.
Receiving & Material Verification
- Verify inbound material receipts for accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure materials are properly scanned, labeled, and stored.
- Support receiving personnel with inventory validation and documentation review.
- Confirm inventory transactions are completed accurately and timely.
- Coordinate material put-away activities and inventory location assignments.
Production & Operational Support
- Supply production departments with required raw materials and components.
- Coordinate material availability for manufacturing operations.
- Assist production personnel with material requests and inventory inquiries.
- Support material staging and replenishment activities.
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate potential shortages.
Systems, Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain inventory records and system transactions.
- Generate inventory reports and reconciliation documentation.
- Support inventory-related audits and compliance activities.
- Analyze inventory trends and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Assist with implementation of inventory process improvements.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain compliance with inventory control standards and procedures.
- Participate in safety meetings and required training programs.
- Ensure inventory areas remain organized and free of hazards.
- Report inventory-related concerns, discrepancies, and safety issues promptly.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of inventory management principles.
- Experience with ERP, warehouse management, or inventory systems.
- Proficiency with barcode scanners and inventory tracking technology.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and reporting skills.
- Ability to analyze inventory data and perform reconciliations.
Interpersonal Skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication skills across multiple departments.

Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 2–5 years of inventory control, warehouse, or logistics experience preferred.
- Experience in manufacturing or distribution environments preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Standing/Walking: Approximately 60%.
- Sitting: Approximately 40%.
- Lifting: Up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and inventory inspections.
- Ability to utilize computers and handheld inventory devices throughout the shift.
Environmental Conditions
- Manufacturing, warehouse, and inventory storage environments.
- Exposure to forklifts, production equipment, noise, and varying temperatures.
- PPE required in designated operational areas.
Other Requirements
- Ability to work flexible schedules and overtime when inventory demands require.
- Must maintain high levels of accuracy and confidentiality regarding inventory records.
Ability to support physical inventory events and operational audits.
