Construction Field & Operations Assistant
Clay County Habitat for Humanity is seeking a dependable, hands-on Construction Field Assistant to support the Construction Director with residential construction projects, volunteer workdays, inventory, materials, and daily department operations.
This is a full-time support position. The Construction Director establishes project priorities, schedules, budgets, purchases, subcontractor coordination, and field direction. The Assistant is responsible for carrying out assigned work, keeping operations organized, communicating problems early, and requesting approval before making changes or commitments.
Primary Responsibilities
- Support and supervise volunteers and future Habitat homeowners during assigned construction activities.
- Prepare jobsites, tools, materials, and work areas before scheduled workdays.
- Explain assigned tasks clearly and help volunteers work safely and productively.
- Complete basic construction, maintenance, setup, cleanup, and minor repair tasks as assigned.
- Maintain accurate inventory records for tools, materials, equipment, and supplies using Excel or similar software.
- Receive, organize, stage, and document deliveries and construction materials.
- Take daily photographs and provide concise updates on progress, needs, delays, incidents, and safety concerns.
- Keep jobsites, vehicles, trailers, storage areas, and office workspaces organized and secure.
- Assist with authorized material pickups, deliveries, and movement of tools and supplies.
- Perform reasonable physical and maintenance tasks at construction sites, the office, warehouse, and storage areas.
- Communicate professionally with staff, volunteers, homeowners, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Follow established processes and priorities assigned by the Construction Director.
- Perform other reasonable construction and operational support duties as assigned.
Position Authority
This position does not independently approve purchases, pricing, scope changes, schedule changes, material substitutions, subcontractor work, or commitments on behalf of Clay County Habitat for Humanity. These matters must be reviewed and authorized by the Construction Director.
Required Qualifications
- Hands-on experience in construction, remodeling, maintenance, facilities, warehouse operations, landscaping, or a similar practical role.
- Comfortable using common hand and power tools safely.
- Basic computer skills, including email, text messaging, photographs, and Excel or Google Sheets.
- Reliable, punctual, organized, and able to complete assigned work with limited follow-up.
- Able to follow instructions, accept feedback professionally, and communicate problems before they affect operations.
- Comfortable supporting and directing volunteers with different levels of construction experience.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Able to perform the essential physical functions of the position in active jobsites and Florida weather, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Available for a full-time weekday schedule, early morning starts when assigned, and up to two Saturdays per month.
Schedule and Compensation
- Full-time, hourly, non-exempt position.
- 40 hours per week.
- $21.00 per hour.
- Schedule is established by the Construction Director based on project, volunteer, delivery, inspection, and operational needs.
- Up to two Saturdays per month may be required.
- Initial 90-day introductory period.
- Benefits are available after completion of the introductory period, subject to eligibility and current organizational policy.
Success in This Role
Success means dependable attendance, respectful communication, accurate inventory, organized work areas, safe volunteer activities, early reporting of problems, and consistent support of the Construction Director’s project priorities.
Work Location
In person — Green Cove Springs and active Clay County Habitat construction sites.
Pay: $40,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
