About the Role
Indy's Best Sandwich is Indianapolis's go-to spot for handcrafted sandwiches built with locally sourced ingredients. This is a dynamic, three-hat role — you'll be pulling espresso shots and crafting coffee drinks, delivering outstanding hospitality on the floor as a server, and keeping orders flowing smoothly as an expo between the kitchen and the customer. If you're energetic, multi-tasking comes naturally to you, and you love being at the center of the action, this is your role.
Responsibilities
As a Barista
- Prepare and serve espresso-based drinks, drip coffee, teas, and specialty beverages to recipe spec
- Operate and maintain espresso machine, grinder, and brewing equipment
- Monitor coffee quality, dial in grind settings, and adjust throughout the shift
- Keep the coffee bar stocked, clean, and organized at all times
- Engage guests with drink recommendations and menu knowledge
As a Server
- Greet guests warmly, take orders accurately, and enter them into the POS system
- Deliver food and beverages to tables with care and a friendly attitude
- Check in with guests to ensure satisfaction and address any needs
- Handle payments, process transactions, and maintain accurate cash handling
- Communicate clearly with the kitchen and expo on order timing and special requests
- Maintain a clean, organized dining area throughout service
As an Expo
- Station yourself between the kitchen and the front of house to coordinate order flow
- Verify that every plate and order is complete, accurate, and meets presentation standards before it leaves the kitchen
- Call out and stage orders so servers can run food efficiently
- Communicate ticket times and any delays to both the kitchen team and servers
- Apply garnishes, condiments, and finishing touches to orders as needed
- Be the quality-control checkpoint that keeps service running smoothly
Requirements
- 1+ year of barista, server, or hospitality experience preferred
- Espresso and specialty coffee knowledge a strong plus; willingness to learn is required
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and shift seamlessly between roles
- Excellent communication skills and a genuine guest-first mindset
- Strong multitasking ability and calm under pressure during rushes
- Food handler's certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days)
- Reliable attendance, weekend and holiday availability required
- Able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 lbs
