We are seeking a talented Software Engineer – C++ / Qt Desktop Applications to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a professional with 5+ years developing high quality desktop or real time applications in C++. Come help shape the next generation of small, unmanned aircraft technology.In this role, you will develop and maintain our Ground Control Station software used to operate Alare’s UAV systems. This position focuses on C++/Qt development for GUI based desktop applications used by both customers and our internal flight test teams.
Role and Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain C++ / Qt / QML ground control software for UAV operations.
- Build and improve UI workflows for mission planning, vehicle status, telemetry visualization, video display, payload control, alerts, and logging.
- Build and maintain MAVLink integration for UAV telemetry, command interfaces, mission workflows, and custom protocol extensions.
- Familiarity with low latency video pipelines using FFmpeg, GStreamer, RTSP, H.264/H.265, or similar technologies.
- Improve GCS performance, reliability, and usability under flight-test and field conditions.
- Work with flight-test engineers and operators to reduce operator workload and improve mission success.
- Support internal Python/Qt desktop automation tools, sensor validation, DAQ/test hardware, and engineering automation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field strongly preferred
- Strong C++ software engineering experience for desktop applications.
- Experience with Qt, QML, Qt Widgets, or similar desktop UI frameworks.
- Experience developing Windows or cross-platform desktop applications.
- Experience with networked, hardware-connected, or real-time data applications.
- Familiarity with Git, CMake or similar build systems, code review, and software testing.
- Development experience using map-centric UIs, GIS, offline maps, terrain data, and QGC map engines.
- Familiarity with FFmpeg, GStreamer, RTSP, WebRTC, H.264/H.265, KLV metadata, or low-latency video.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident (ITAR requirements)
Pay: $110,000.00 - $155,000.00 per year
