DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position centers on drafting and technical plan preparation that supports highway and bridge projects across the state. Primary responsibilities include using design software, interpreting survey information, and helping produce complete project plans from early sketches to final layouts. As a Highway Drafter, you will perform the following duties:
- Drafting tasks: Prepare highway, bridge, and right-of-way plans using Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) and basic drafting tools
- Design assistance: Support designers by checking grades, drawing profiles, and calculating material quantities
- Plan development: Create layouts, cross sections, drainage sheets, and other plan details from preliminary sketches through final versions
- Survey interpretation: Use survey notes, deeds, and three-dimensional data to prepare accurate plan sheets
- Technical support: Generate tabulations, estimates, and other project documents using tools such as Auto Tab and Roadway Management System (RMS)
- Field participation: Take part in field views, inspections, and meetings and prepare notes or sketches when needed
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, upon successful completion of the probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Montoursville. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
- Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,827.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years of experience in a variety of drafting assignments, one of which shall have been in highway drafting, including six months CADD experience or training, and graduation from high school; or
- One year of experience in highway drafting and detailing assignments including six months of CADD experience or training and an Associate's Degree in civil engineering, drafting, or design technology; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training.
