Position Summary
First Steps Preschool is hiring a patient, dependable Assistant Teacher who genuinely loves helping children thrive. You will work closely with a Lead Teacher in our 4-year-old classroom to guide child behavior and implement a play-based, developmentally appropriate curriculum. Your primary focus will be ensuring child safety while nurturing the physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual needs of young learners preparing for kindergarten.
Key Responsibilities
- Classroom Support: Assist in setting up, cleaning up, and organizing indoor and outdoor learning environments for 4-year-olds.
- Lesson Preparation: Prepare materials and supplies under the direction of the Lead Teacher.
- Child Engagement: Interact with children, encourage involvement, and support age-appropriate activities.
- Nurturing Care: Provide consistent, kind, and safe guidance to help children navigate peer interactions.
- Professional Growth: Attend staff meetings, preschool events, and complete 16 hours of annual continuing education.
- Culture: Maintain strict professionalism and confidentiality while fostering collaboration with families.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: Experience working with 4-year-olds or in a preschool setting is highly preferred.
- Compliance: Must pass a comprehensive State of Michigan background check and fingerprinting.
- Attitude: A positive, collaborative mindset with a willingness to learn in an assisting role.
Physical Requirements
Our program is fast-paced, high-energy, and highly engaging.
- Ability to bend, kneel, sit on the floor, and stand or walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
