Job Title: Citizen Home Medication Technician
Department: Residential
Reports To: Inn Home Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
SUMMARY
The purpose of the job is to coordinate the administration and maintenance of an efficient and accurate medication delivery system. Assists the medical staff and Inn Home Manager by administering treatments, medications, and providing direct care and personal assistance as needed.
I. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Ensure orderly and accurate distribution of medications prescribed by physicians for the Citizens under the RN delegation process.
2. Ensure that the medications are given at the appropriate time. Document the distribution of all medications in the appropriate medication log.
3. Maintain an orderly medication area and ensure certain medications are kept safe under double-locked security.
4. Review medication inventory and alert the Health Center when supplies are low in a timely manner.
5. Compile required reports, logs, and incident reports and communicate them to the appropriate parties and by the appropriate means.
6. Communicate medical concerns to the Health Center and home teachers.
7. Meet regularly with the home teachers, participate in activities of the home, and attend home staff meetings.
8. Assist the nursing staff with Citizens requiring direct care as needed.
9. Positively and professionally interact with Brookwood staff, Citizens, parents of Citizens, and other professionals in the work environment.
10. Any other duty as deemed appropriate by the Residential Director or the Inn Home Manager.
II. QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. A. Education and Experience - High school diploma or general education degree (GED); prefer 3 to 5 years direct care experience and/or training in the Brookwood residential community. Some experience working with adults with special needs preferred. General knowledge of medications preferred.
B. Skills and Abilities – Citizen Home Medication Aide should possess personal characteristics such as patience, tolerance, and a willingness to learn more about specific disabilities and adapt expectations. The Citizen Home Medication Aide must have a strong sense of serving and caring for the needs of adults with functional disabilities. In addition, he/she must possess strong written and verbal language skills and be competent in relevant computer skills.
C. Reasoning Ability – Citizen Home Medication Aides should have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of individual behavioral and emotional issues while safely passing medications.
D. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations – Consideration given to CPR and First Aid. Must possess a valid driver’s license from the State of Texas and a good driving record. Training as a Certified Nursing Assistant is preferred but not required.
Medications at The Brookwood Community are distributed under RN delegation. Citizen Home Medication Aide are trained to meet our standards for safe preparation, medication pass, and record keeping. Failure to complete the training or failure to maintain the standards one has been trained in may result in suspension of the RN delegation, which is necessary for the job.

While performing the duties of this job, an employee is frequently required to communicate by listening or writing. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; stoop; kneel; bend; crouch; crawl; and climb stairs. The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or transfer a citizen to and from a wheelchair or bed. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 lbs. (i.e. when transferring a citizen to and from a bed or a wheelchair).
IV. WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment is that of a large, modern assisted living facility. The Medication Technician assists adults with disabilities and provides personal care and hands-on support to the Citizen’s individual needs. This position requires a flexible individual; someone able to multi-task and adjust to the many variables found between assignments.
