Paragon Laboratories, Inc. is looking for dedicated and motivated Chemists to join our team.
OUR COMPANY
For over 25 years, Paragon has been a local provider of chemical, physical, and biological laboratory testing services to customers across three primary markets: Environmental, Petroleum, and Chemical.
THE JOB
As a Metals Chemist in our Environmental Laboratory, you will spend your days performing inorganic digestions of water, soil/solid, oil, and sludge samples. You will then analyze the digestates by ICP-MS, ICP-OES, and/or CVAA to ensure our customers’ samples do not pose a risk to human or environmental health. Over time you will be cross trained in other techniques and analysis protocols within our Inorganics Department.
In joining our company, you will be providing a critical service in support of our 600+ customers in the metro and tri-state areas, while being given the opportunity to learn and grow through extensive role-specific training.
Our team of Chemists work Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
OUR TEAM OF CHEMISTS
- Perform testing according to EPA, SW 846, Standard Methods, ASTM, proprietary client protocols, and internal SOPs
- Perform various digestions, quantitative and qualitative evaluations, calculations, and spectroscopic test procedures
- Use and maintain various pieces of laboratory equipment including balances, ovens, turbidimeters, digestion blocks, high pressure vacuum pumps, compressed gas cylinders, regulators, ICP-MS, ICP-OES, CVAA, and CVAFS
- Monitor procedure performance and maintain documentation for QA/QC purposes
- Participate in method development activities, method validation, and standard operating procedure revisions
- Participate in internal and external audits in support of our accreditations and certifications, including resolution of audit findings
- Maintain a high degree of laboratory cleanliness
- Other duties as assigned
EXPERIENCE MUST HAVES
- BS in chemistry preferred or related field
- At least 5 years working in a professional laboratory
- At least 3 years performing mercury analysis using EPA 245.1, EPA 7470, EPA 7471, and EPA 1631
- At least 3 years performing metals analysis using EPA 200.8, EPA 200.7, EPA 6020, and EPA 6010
- Participation in external audits, including the resolution of findings
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Normal color vision (i.e. must not be color blind)
- Able to lift up to 20 lbs routinely; 65 lbs on occasion
- Ability to stand for up to 6 hours/day
- Ability to wear PPE as required by internal protocols
