Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Earthwork Estimator / Sales professional to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately estimating earthwork and excavation projects, managing client relationships, and driving sales growth within the construction industry. Your expertise will help ensure competitive pricing, precise project budgeting, and successful project acquisition. Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed estimates for earthwork, excavation, grading, and site preparation projects using estimating software such as HeavyBid and construction management tools.
- Review construction drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to interpret project scope and material requirements accurately.
- Collaborate with project managers, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather pricing data and negotiate favorable terms.
- Develop comprehensive project budgets by estimating material costs, labor hours, equipment needs, and other related expenses.
- Manage multiple proposals simultaneously while ensuring accuracy and timely submission to secure new business opportunities.
- Utilize Bluebeam and other digital tools to review blueprints, create markup annotations, and streamline communication across teams.
- Maintain detailed spreadsheets for cost management, tracking bid progress, and updating estimates as project details evolve.
- Assist in contract review and ensure all proposals align with client expectations and contractual obligations.
- Engage in client communication to present estimates confidently, clarify project scope, and negotiate pricing strategies effectively.
- Support cost control efforts throughout project execution by monitoring budgets and adjusting estimates as necessary for ongoing projects.
Experience
- Proven experience as a construction estimator with a focus on heavy civil or commercial earthwork projects.
- Strong knowledge of estimating software such as HeavyBid or similar programs; proficiency in Bluebeam is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings, technical specifications, and blueprints accurately.
- Experience managing projects from initial estimate through contract award while maintaining strict cost control measures.
- Familiarity with construction management software platforms and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) for documentation and reporting purposes.
- Excellent negotiation skills combined with effective client communication abilities to foster long-term relationships.
- Construction site experience is preferred to better understand field conditions impacting estimates.
- Knowledge of contracts, material cost estimating, pricing strategies, and cost management techniques within the construction industry.
