Under the direction of the Coordinator Residential Living, the Assistant Coordinator of Residential Living works in our residential cottages to provide supervision, organization, and administrative coverage to a residence for students with complex disabilities and visual impairments.
Leadership Skills
Provide support to residential staff during shifts, ensuring consistent implementation of program routines and student programming.
Assist supervisors in monitoring staff performance, documentation, and compliance with policies.
Maintain effective communication and collaborate with cottage staff, administrators, and interdisciplinary teams.
Act as liaison with education, health services, clinical, and educational staff.
Performance Management:
Student Instruction & IEP Implementation Skills
Assist in developing, implementing, and instructing students on IEP goals, objectives, and strategies.
Demonstrate understanding of the general curriculum and the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC).
Engage students to support emotional, social, and behavioral learning and development.
Promote student independence, self-confidence, and development of social, organizational, and other critical skills.
Safety & Crisis Management Skills
Monitor student safety and wellbeing, responding promptly and appropriately to behavioral or medical incidents.
Implement crisis prevention and physical intervention (SafetyCare) techniques, following training protocols to de-escalate situations safely.
Ensure compliance with safe food handling and nutritional requirements.
Operational & Administrative Skills
Assist in coordinating daily schedules, including meals, breaks, activities, transportation, and bedtime routines.
Drive program vehicles, including chair cars, to support resident transportation needs (if licensed).
Produce clear, well-written reports in proper formats, submit reports and IEPs on time, and oversee completion of all staff and student-related documentation.
Document daily logs, incident reports, and behavioral data accurately and in a timely manner.
Communication & Engagement Skills
Represent the cottage at meetings with families, school districts, and interdepartmental teams.
Communicate timely and effectively with families, clinicians, and other stakeholders to ensure continuity of care and support planning.
Professional Development & Compliance Skills
Participate in staff training, supervision meetings, and professional development opportunities.
Successfully pass and maintain Perkins Medication Administration Clearance.
Additional Duties & Specialized Skills
Provide classroom or cottage coverage, including Teacher and Related Service Provider absence coverage.
Actively assist students in clinical, physical/recreational, and off-campus activities (e.g., PT, OT, SLP, therapeutic pool, gym, track, field trips, driving).
Willingness to train for Perkins Vehicle Driver Clearance.
Provide and monitor direct care (e.g., hygiene, toileting, showering, feeding, dressing, lifting/transferring) tailored to each student’s abilities.

Associates degree required, Bachelor’s preferred
Two (2) years of experience working with children with disabilities
At least one year of supervisory experience preferred
Ability to complete and maintain First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and Crisis Prevention and Physical Intervention (SafetyCare) certifications
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL), depending on program needs
Valid driver’s license and willingness to drive school vehicles including chair cars

The following shared salary range is what Perkins reasonably expects, in good faith, to pay for the position. The applicable range could differ based on experience and qualification.
