The Technology and Innovation Office (TIO) supports the growth of New Mexico's innovation economy by advancing entrepreneurship, commercialization, technology development, and ecosystem building across key science and technology sectors. TIO works with startups, research institutions, national laboratories, higher education institutions, economic development partners, and industry stakeholders throughout the state.

Why does the job exist?
The New Mexico Economic Development Department (EDD) Technology and Innovation Office (TIO) Research, Development, and Deployment (RDandD) Fund Senior Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the implementation of programs and activities associated with the RDandD Fund. Established through HB20 in the 2025 legislative session, the RDandD Fund includes $150 million in non-reverting funds intended to catalyze innovation, economic growth, and job creation by supporting early-stage capital for emerging technologies, startups, and research aligned with New Mexico's economic development priorities. Working under the guidance of the TIO Director and Associate Director, the RDandD Fund Senior Coordinator will carry out the design, coordination, and administration of RDandD Fund processes, ensuring efficient and transparent deployment of funds across priority sectors identified in the state's Science and Technology Roadmap: quantum systems and applications, advanced energy technologies, and space, aerospace, and defense systems.
How does it get done?
The TIO RDandD Fund Senior Coordinator is responsible for:
1. Coordinating with and serving as TIO liaison to the RDandD Fund program, priority sectors, and technology and innovation ecosystem stakeholders.
2. Representing RDandD Fund priorities and TIO programs through internal coordination, outreach, and partnership with New Mexico research institutions, universities, and private sector stakeholders
3. Working to facilitate and support technology transfer and commercialization from New Mexico universities and research centers that leads to company formation, investment, and job creation through RDandD Fund-supported initiatives
4. Providing RDandD Fund-supported projects and technology and innovation companies in priority sectors, including advanced computing, advanced energy, aerospace, and biosciences, with technical assistance and guidance to facilitate growth, technology innovation, commercialization, and market entry as further detailed in HB20.
5. Coordinating grant-related activities from intake and application through utilization of internal systems, review and evaluation of proposals, and award processes; maintaining program guidelines; tracking and monitoring funded projects through internal systems; tracking grant progress and financial due diligence; reporting on program success and status; and ensuring compliance with program requirements in coordination with the RDandD contractor.
6. Working to strengthen policies, processes, and programs supporting the implementation and effectiveness of the RDandD Fund and related technology and innovation initiatives in New Mexico.
7. Deploying and amplifying the resources and tools of the New Mexico Economic Development Department to support and assist RDandD Fund applicants, awardees, and New Mexico entrepreneurs and businesses in technology and innovation
8. Utilizing and coordinating internal systems and tools, including Monday.com, Salesforce, Submittable, and other EDD platforms, to support grant intake, tracking, reporting, workflow management, and program administration for the RDandD Fund and related initiatives
9. Other tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Economics, Economic Development, Business Administration, Finance, Public Administration, Historic Preservation, Communications/Journalism, Community Development, Urban Design, Urban / Regional Planning, or any related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) degree from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of experience in economic or community development programs. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico driver's license.
Must obtain a Defensive Driving Certificate.
Working Conditions
The Technology and Innovation Office is based in Albuquerque, though the role may require working from the EDD Santa Fe office when necessary. Occasional in-field travel working with New Mexico businesses, local/regional economic development organizations, and ecosystem stakeholders and partners may be required. Ability to manage and report work through appropriate software programs of the division or department. Work is usually performed in an office setting with extensive exposure to visual/video display terminal and extensive personal computer and telephone usage. Sitting for long periods, bending, stooping to file and occasionally lifting a minimum of 25 pounds. Must complete a defensive driving training course and obtain a defensive driving certificate within 30 days of employment. Occasionally work extra hours on evenings and weekends when necessary.
