POSITION SUMMARY:
The MacColl YMCA and Pawtucket YMCA are seeking enthusiastic, dependable, and customer-focused Rock Wall/Gym Attendants to oversee the daily operations of both the Rock Wall and Gymnasium. This position plays a vital role in providing a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable environment for members and guests of all ages.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising the Rock Wall and Gymnasium, ensuring both areas remain clean, organized, and operating safely at all times. This includes monitoring participant safety, enforcing YMCA policies and procedures, providing excellent customer service, and creating a positive experience for all members and non-members using the facilities. The ideal candidate enjoys working with children, teens, and families, demonstrates strong communication skills, and is committed to promoting the YMCA's mission and values.
Essential Functions

Supervise the Rock Wall and Gymnasium to ensure a safe, clean, welcoming, and well-organized environment for all participants.

Monitor all Rock Wall activities, ensuring children and participants follow established safety procedures and proper climbing techniques while using all required safety equipment.

Conduct safety checks of climbing equipment, harnesses, ropes, mats, and facility equipment before and throughout each shift, reporting any maintenance or safety concerns immediately.

Provide attentive supervision of children, teens, and adults while maintaining a positive and inclusive atmosphere.

Enforce YMCA policies, facility rules, and risk management procedures to promote a safe environment for all members and guests.

Build positive relationships with members, non-members, and families by providing outstanding customer service, answering questions, and assisting participants whenever needed.

Maintain the cleanliness and organization of both the Rock Wall and Gymnasium, including returning equipment to designated storage areas, wiping down equipment, sweeping when necessary, and ensuring all spaces are ready for the next group or activity.

Assist participants with Rock Wall harness fitting, safety checks, belay procedures (if certified), and general orientation to the facility.

Set up and break down equipment for YMCA programs, special events, rentals, and sports activities as needed.

Encourage active participation while promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, respect, and inclusion among all participants.

Respond appropriately to emergencies by following YMCA emergency action plans and safety protocols.

Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding facility concerns, participant incidents, equipment needs, and operational updates.

Attend required staff meetings, trainings, certifications, and professional development opportunities.

Support other YMCA departments and assist with special events and programs when requested.

Perform all other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.

Meets minimum age standards as established by state law and/or the Y.

CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required.

Child Abuse Prevention training required within 30 days of hire.

Previous experience working with children preferred.

Previous experience working with diverse populations.

Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

Ability to understand and comply with YMCA Child Abuse Prevention policies.

Completion of criminal background check and screening in accordance with YMCA standards.

Completion of required Child Abuse Prevention training prior to and throughout employment.

Demonstrated ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with youth.
