Modality Workflow:
- Schedules and monitors proper staffing levels to efficiently accomplish the daily workload.
- Responsible for protocoling procedures with the supervising Radiologist.
- Monitors workflow and adjusts as necessary to optimize throughput.
- Responsible for billing report review on a daily basis.
- Assists manager with charge denials to maximize reimbursement.
- Monitors supply usage for proper inventory while successfully meeting budgetary expectations.
- Works with Radiology Management to ensure proper patient coding.
- Maintains relationship with the IPS department to resolve scheduling issues that arise.
- Maintains open lines of communication with all modality staff members for all equipment, service, supply, and staffing issues.
- Coordinates with other modalities for patients with multiple exams within Radiology.
Modality Technical:
- Evaluates modality performance for technical quality and works with manager to make adjustments as necessary.
- Takes a leading role in the QA program for the modality and staff with direction from management.
- Coordinates with service to maintain image quality and equipment performance.
- Maintains documentation in accordance with accrediting agency requirements.
- Trouble shoots equipment problems and coordinates service when necessary.
- Initiates protocol changes and communicates these changes to the staff.
- Recommends needed equipment to Radiology management for capital purchase planning.
- Assures the equipment and work areas are clean.
- Assists Radiology management with interviewing, hiring, and orienting new staff.
- Acts as a role model by complying with policies, procedures, and practices.
Department Function:
- Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of the patient in order to create a positive experience for each patient.
- Applies ALARA principles.
- Acts as resource for routine and complex procedures, including trauma, surgical or immobile patients.
- Serves as a resource for all modality staff members for exam protocols, imaging equipment operation and PACS related procedures.
- Assists Supervisor/Manager with input for subordinate performance evaluations.
- Keeps room adequately stocked with linens and supplies.
Patient Data / Image Movement:
- Verifies all written orders prior to beginning a procedure.
- Confirms the identity of each patient per policy.
- Enters accurate exam information into Radiology Information System.
- Obtains patient history so the proper procedure can be performed.
- Completes all steps to ensure that images are on the PACS and ready to read.
- Enters accurate exam charges so proper billing can occur.
- Scans all pertinent documents into patient file in PACS.
Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by:
- Completing other job-related duties and projects as assigned.

Education and Experience:
- The knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of an associate's degree or Certificate in Radiologic Technology ARRT, (R). A minimum of 2 to 5 years of job-related experience is required. Management experience is preferred even if unrelated to healthcare experience. Technical expertise in Diagnostic Imaging is a must in order to lead the staff to optimum performance. Developed excellence in patient care is another important and desired quality.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Must be familiar with and capable of operating various types of Diagnostic Imaging equipment.
- Must have basic knowledge of all types of Diagnostic Imaging procedures.
- Must have knowledge of ALARA principles.
- Must have basic knowledge of computer usage and associated equipment.
- Requires ability to work through various types of problems and situations involving mental concentration and decision making.
Working Conditions:
- Requires working at a computer, seated for prolonged periods.
- May encounter potentially hazardous conditions due to direct exposure to patient contact (contagious viruses, bacteria, etc.).
- Must be able to report to work location within 30 minutes when On Call.
Physical Demands:
- Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e. to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts/wheelchairs up to 50 pounds, to position/lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted, over 35 pounds requires assistance, provide CPR, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position.
