This position is a non-licensed/certified staff member authorized to transport and/or stock medications to meet specified essential job duties. This includes staff who do not have the authority to prescribe, dispense and/or administer medications.
Under the direction of the Registered Professional Nurse, the LDRP Surgical Technician is responsible for functioning in a scrub role for Cesarean Sections, tubal sterilizations, or any operative procedures performed in the obstetrical operating rooms including adhering to sponge, sharp, and instrument counts standards and maintaining honest operating room conscience. Also responsible for LDRP Technician duties as delegated by charge nurse or managers. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission and values.

Principle Accountabilities: % Of Time Spent
1. Perform duties as a Surgical Technician: 40%
a. Scrubs for scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean Sections, tubal sterilizations and other surgical procedures performed in the LDRP operating room.
b. Maintains correct count of sponges, needles and instruments with circulating nurse and reports correctness and discrepancies.
c.Maintains aseptic technique at all times.
d.Assists in maintenance and care of specimens.
e.Assists in application of dressings and in moving patients.
2. Cleaning and Preparation: 20%
a.Decontaminates all equipment, instruments and supplies.
b.Assists in cleaning the operating rooms to ensure safe patient environment and good infection control. c.Safely operates and maintains cleanliness of autoclave. d.Takes responsibility for care of instruments and supplies by proper cleaning and sterilization.
3. Other delegated tasks: 35%
a. Performs LDRP technician duties as required (i.e. assist with vaginal deliveries and handling of specimens, runs errands, stocks LDRPs, makes postpartum packs, chart packs, etc.).
b. Secretarial duties may include preparing charts for scheduled inductions, answering phones and call lights.
c. Orders supplies for stocking operating rooms, LDRPs and medication room.
d. Assists in orientation of personnel to surgical procedures in a positive manner.
e. Maintains good working relationships with physicians and staff.
f. Uses tact and good judgment in dealing with a variety of situations.
g. Functions as a team member.

Employee is required to sit occasionally, stand continuously, and walk frequently. Employee must lift/carry a light (1-20 lbs.) medium (21-50 lbs.) and heavy (50 lbs. +) load frequently. Employee may be required to lift over 100 lbs. with assistance. Employee is frequently required to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, climb, lift waist to overhead. Employee is occasionally required to reach forward and reach overhead. For repetitive action, employee is required to perform simple grasping and pushing/pulling. Employee is occasionally exposed to electrical hazards and CRT terminal work. Employee is occasionally exposed to blood borne pathogens. Occasionally: 1-33%, Frequently: 34-66%, Continuously: 67-100% The most significant of duties are included but this does not exclude occasional work assignments not mentioned or developmental duties.
High School or equivalent - graduate of an accredited Surgical Tech School preferred
1 to 2 years experience preferred
