We are seeking a qualified Orientation and Mobility Specialist for a part-time contract role, ideal for professionals who take pride in empowering students with visual impairments to increase their independence and develop lifelong skills. Key Qualifications:
- Active Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) certification required
- AVCREP certification, or an equivalent credential
- Ability to complete Texas fingerprinting and credentialing quickly (if not current)
- Demonstrated experience or interest in working with K-12 students
- Flexibility and strong communication skills for collaboration across multiple campuses
Primary Responsibilities:
- Evaluate students’ orientation and mobility needs and create tailored instructional plans
- Deliver direct orientation and mobility instruction to students, fostering safe and effective travel across school and community environments
- Maintain accurate and thorough records for compliance and student progress
- Collaborate with special education teams, teachers, and families to integrate mobility goals into each student’s educational roadmap
- Consult with school personnel to promote accessibility and student inclusion
- Travel to multiple schools in the region—the number of sites to be determined
- Adapt to evolving caseload details following district meetings
