JOB SUMMARY:
The Container Loading Associate is responsible for organizing, positioning, and securing cargo within containers to ensure safe and efficient transport. This role involves verifying vehicle and container information, adhering to loading plans, and ensuring compliance with safety and export regulations. Knowledge of sit-down/stand-up forklifts and tools—such as drill presses, rotary hammers, and pneumatic nailers—is required. Construction experience is desirable; forklift operation certification and power tool proficiency are important.
OBJECTIVES:
- Verify vehicle information for loading according to the established plan.
- Report discrepancies between the loading plan and the actual vehicles, initiating follow-up processes.
- Identify and report items prohibited for export, such as weapons or other restricted materials.
- Document and report items not belonging to the vehicle (e.g., tires, laptops, cell phones).
- Ensure vehicles are properly secured within the container to prevent movement and damage during transport.
- Maintain appropriate spacing between vehicles (no more than 6 inches) to maximize container cost-efficiency.
- Verify the proper functioning of machinery and tools used during the loading process.
- Immediately report any mechanical or load-related issues to supervisors.
- Perform other assigned tasks.
COMPETENCIES:
- Commitment to maintaining safety standards and using PPE.
- Attention to detail to ensure accurate loading and regulatory compliance. Knowledge of container loading processes and safety protocols.
- Proficiency in using equipment such as forklifts and power tools.
- Ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines.
- Effective communication skills for reporting to and coordinating with supervisors.
- Ability to resolve issues related to load discrepancies or equipment malfunctions.
- Physical stamina to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Good visibility and focus during loading operations.
- Adaptability to work in various environmental conditions (e.g., heat or cold).
- Ability to identify and report on cargo safety measures.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with the warehouse team.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Certification in forklift operation and use of power tools.
- Basic safety training.
- Experience in container loading or a related field.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Good visibility and focus during operations.
- Mandatory use of PPE and equipment such as forklifts, ladders, and air guns.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
