Job Description
Position Summary
The CMM Programmer is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) inspection programs to ensure the quality and dimensional accuracy of forged components. This role supports production, quality assurance, and engineering by verifying compliance with specifications, industry standards, and customer requirements within a forging manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, write, and optimize CMM programs using software such as PC-DMIS, Calypso, VDmis or equivalent.
Perform dimensional inspection of forged components, including complex geometries.
Interpret engineering forging drawings, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), and CAD models.
Validate first article inspections (FAI) and production part approval processes (PPAP).
Troubleshoot CMM programs and measurement issues to ensure accuracy and repeatability.
Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, and quality teams to resolve nonconformances.
Support root cause analysis and corrective actions related to dimensional defects.
Maintain calibration records and ensure compliance with quality standards (ISO 9001, AS9100, etc.).
Assist in fixture design and inspection method development for forged parts.
Generate inspection reports and communicate results clearly to stakeholders.
Continuously improve inspection processes and cycle times.
Required Qualifications
Associate’s degree or technical certification in Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
3+ years of CMM programming experience in a manufacturing environment.
Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint reading.
Experience with forged components (e.g., steel, aluminum, closed/open die forging) strongly preferred.
Proficiency with CMM software (PC-DMIS, Zeiss Calypso, Mitutoyo MCOSMOS, or similar).
Familiarity with CAD models and software (e.g., SolidWorks, NX, CATIA).
Knowledge of inspection tools (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, contour measurement).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in forging, heat treatment, or metal-forming operations.
Knowledge of material flow, die wear, and distortion impacts on part geometry.
Experience with aerospace, automotive, or heavy industrial components.
ASQ certification (e.g., Certified Quality Technician or Engineer) is a plus.
Exposure to automation or offline programming environments.
Physical & Work Environment
Manufacturing/forging shop environment with exposure to heat, noise, and heavy equipment.
Ability to stand for extended periods and handle inspection equipment.
Occasional lifting of parts and fixtures.

For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $75,000 to $80,000 US Dollar (USD) Salaried based on a variety of factors. For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company’s Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 2X the Company’s bonus multiple, based on the Company’s performance in the applicable quarter. Employees will receive 120 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays.
