Charlottesville Waldorf School is now hiring a dynamic and experienced Aftercare Teacher to work with students from 1st to 8th grade. Our center is located in Charlottesville, VA. Duration: School year from August through June; plus Faculty Work Days and Parent-teacher conference days
Work Hours: 2:30-5:45pm, Mon-Fri
Overview:
The Grade School Aftercare teacher is an essential role in the day of many children at the school. The teacher is responsible for a wide age-range of children, creating and following a daily and weekly rhythm that gives these children the opportunity to complete their homework, partake in appropriate crafts and activities, and have time to play and relax after a long school day.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Get supplies ready for the afternoon.
- Keep the aftercare supplies in good working condition. Order supplies as needed.
- Plan and carry out all areas of curriculum according to Waldorf pedagogy
- Create and maintain a clean and orderly classroom space, including seasonal changes
- Keep a daily record of the time’s at which children are picked-up with the parent/guardian’s signature to turn into the business manager weekly.
- Review and keep a notebook of children’s emergency and dismissal forms, as well as the list of children who have health concerns (allergies, medical conditions etc.)
- Helping with childcare during Holiday Bazaar set-up and parent/teacher conferences during regular aftercare hours
- Attend faculty work days in June and August
Training:
- Red Cross/CPR First Aid certification/Medicine Administration training (classes are usually offered during Faculty Work Days)
- Maintain a working knowledge of school policies and procedures:
- fire, shelter in place, and evacuation procedures
- proper documentation of children’s injuries location and use of first aid kit
- playground rules
Periodic evaluations and observations:
- Aftercare teachers are evaluated by the professional development committee each year, no later than March.
- Aftercare teachers will be observed by a mentor periodically throughout the year.
- Aftercare teachers are required to observe a class teacher at least twice in the course of the year.

Background required:
Education:
- Related college-level course work preferred
Experience:
- Related work with children, preferably in a classroom setting
- Study of Waldorf pedagogy and Anthroposophy preferred
Skills, etc.:
- Works well with children
- Good communication skills
- Calm, gentle manner
- Well-organized, efficient
- Works well with colleagues
- Reliability and punctuality are required
