Controller
Target Compensation: $120k to $160k
Location: Onsite in Reno
Target Start Date: August 1
The ideal Controller is a hands-on accounting leader who has operated inside a multi-location retail, distribution, warehouse, or field service business. This person should be comfortable inheriting a messy environment, tightening the close process, improving account reconciliations, and building practical controls without overcomplicating the business.
This role needs someone who can both lead and execute. The right candidate will not be purely strategic or purely transactional. They should be willing to dig into reconciliations, inventory, intercompany activity, AR, AP, accruals, and month-end close mechanics, while also helping management understand financial results and operating performance.
Required Experience
- Multi-location retail, service, distribution, or warehouse/inventory experience
- Strong month-end close ownership, including reconciliations, accruals, review of financial statements, and close calendar management
- Inventory accounting experience, including warehouse activity, inventory subledger issues, COGS, and margin analysis
- Intercompany accounting experience, ideally across related entities with shared activity, allocations, or management fees
- Purchase accounting or M&A integration experience, including opening balance sheet cleanup, inherited accounting issues, and post-acquisition stabilization
- Experience supporting field service, installation, dispatch, or service teams
- Ability to manage accounting staff and create accountability without needing a large corporate infrastructure
- Strong Excel and ERP/accounting system skills
- Comfortable working directly with ownership, operators, and outside advisors

- Able to prioritize material issues over immaterial perfection
- Strong communicator with operators and non-accountants
- Willing to be hands-on
- Not remote-first, not overly corporate, and not dependent on a large team beneath them
Nice to Have
- CPA / public accounting / MBA background, but not required
- Experience with specialty retail, home services, pool/spa, or similar operational models
- Experience implementing or improving close checklists, balance sheet reconciliation trackers, and financial reporting packages
Pay: $120,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
