Project Engineer – Municipal Infrastructure (High-Impact, Multi-Disciplinary Role)
We’re looking for a Project Engineer who wants more than a narrow slice of design work, someone who wants exposure across the full lifecycle of municipal infrastructure projects and the opportunity to see their work directly shape how communities grow and function.
This role offers a rare blend of technical design, development review, capital planning, and public agency collaboration, giving you a broader seat at the table than most traditional project engineer positions. You won’t be siloed—you’ll be trusted to contribute across multiple phases of municipal services and grow into a well-rounded project leader.
You’ll work alongside senior engineers, technical specialists, and client stakeholders who value practical problem-solving, responsiveness, and high-quality delivery. You’ll also have direct interaction with municipal clients and occasional on-site involvement, giving you visibility into how decisions translate into real-world infrastructure outcomes.
This is an ideal opportunity for an engineer who enjoys variety, autonomy, and meaningful public impact—and who wants to build toward project management or technical leadership in the municipal space.
What Makes This Role Different
Unlike many Project Engineer roles that focus on a single discipline or phase, this position gives you exposure across three core areas of municipal engineering:
-
Development Review & Land Development PM – Evaluate private development proposals and ensure alignment with municipal standards and long-term infrastructure needs
-
Capital Improvement Planning & Delivery – Support planning, prioritization, and execution of public infrastructure investments that shape city growth
-
Public Infrastructure Design – Contribute to the design and delivery of roads, utilities, and civic infrastructure that directly serve communities
What You’ll Do
-
Review development plans through both preliminary and construction stages, providing technical input that directly influences approvals and outcomes
-
Support senior engineers in the design and development of municipal infrastructure projects
-
Act as staff augmentation for client agencies, including preparation of technical reports, recommendations, and project documentation
-
Conduct field visits to validate design intent and support construction quality assurance
-
Collaborate across disciplines to define requirements and develop practical, buildable engineering solutions
-
Assist in troubleshooting and resolving technical and field-based issues in real time
-
Maintain clear, accurate documentation to support project continuity and municipal compliance
What You Bring
-
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
-
7+ years of engineering experience in civil or municipal infrastructure
-
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required
-
Familiarity with municipal codes, standards, and regulatory processes
-
Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical teams and public agency stakeholders
-
Experience working with public agencies strongly preferred
-
Exposure to civil engineering design tools and project delivery workflows
-
Interest in growing toward project management or technical leadership
-
California PE license preferred
Why This Role Stands Out
This is not just another Project Engineer position focused on production tasks. It’s a chance to:
-
Work across multiple disciplines instead of being confined to one lane
-
Gain direct exposure to municipal decision-making and capital planning
-
See projects through from concept to construction, not just design deliverables
-
Build toward leadership in a highly stable, mission-driven sector
