The Preparation and Production Associate is a key member of the Food Operations team at Atlas Valley Purveyors. This role is the backbone of daily food production and department readiness by ensuring that house-made products are prepared consistently, the store is stocked, and food preparation areas meet AVP's cleanliness and sanitation standards. Duties and Responsibilities
Food Production
The Preparation and Production Associate is responsible for preparing AVP's house-made deli salads, sandwiches, and other prepared food items on a daily basis. They follow established AVP recipes and production standards to ensure consistency in quality, portioning, and presentation. All prepared items are labeled with correct ingredients, production dates, and use-by dates in compliance with food safety requirements.
Meat Grinding & Processing Support
The Preparation and Production Associate handles daily meat grinding and slicing and assists with routine meat processing tasks in support of the Butcher Associate. They operate the meat grinder and related equipment safely and in accordance with department procedures. All products are weighed, labeled, and packaged to AVP standards.
Stocking
The Preparation and Production Associate stocks grocery shelves, cooler cases, and food operations display areas throughout the day. They handle incoming freight, rotate stock using first-in-first-out (FIFO) standards, and ensure all shelves are faced, fronted, and fully stocked. They process shrink on any merchandise that has passed its useful life in accordance with AVP inventory management procedures.
Daily Cleaning & Sanitation
The Preparation and Production Associate is responsible for daily cleaning and sanitation of all food preparation surfaces, tools, equipment, and food storage areas throughout the Food Operations department. This includes countertops, cutting boards, slicers, grinders, cooler interiors, and any shared prep equipment. All sanitation tasks are completed in compliance with food safety requirements and AVP standards.
Deep Cleaning
On a scheduled basis, the Preparation and Production Associate performs deep cleaning of the Food Operations department. This includes thorough cleaning of equipment interiors, drains, cooler walls and floors, shelving, and any area not addressed in the daily cleaning routine. Deep cleaning schedules are maintained and reviewed by the Food Operations Manager.
Food Safety & Compliance
The Preparation and Production Associate is expected to maintain full compliance with food safety and sanitation requirements at all times. They are responsible for ensuring that prepared products are held and stored at correct temperatures, that food handling procedures are followed, and that the preparation environment meets AVP's safety standards throughout every shift. Food Handlers Certification is required.

Skills and Qualifications
Food Production Skills
Experience in food preparation, deli production, or a commercial kitchen environment is strongly preferred. The Preparation and Production Associate must be able to follow recipes and production standards consistently to deliver a high-quality, uniform product.
Food Safety Knowledge
A working knowledge of food safety practices — including proper storage temperatures, cross-contamination prevention, FIFO rotation, and sanitation procedures — is required. Food Handlers Certification is required for this role.
Equipment Operation
The Preparation and Production Associate must be able to safely operate meat grinders, slicers, and other food preparation equipment in accordance with department procedures and safety protocols.
Attention to Detail
Accurate labeling, correct portioning, and consistent product quality require close attention to detail at every step of the production process. This associate must take pride in doing the job right the first time.
Process & Procedure Oriented
The Preparation and Production Associate must strictly follow AVP's department procedures for food production, sanitation, stocking, and inventory. Shortcuts are not acceptable in a food safety environment.
Physical Stamina
This role requires extended periods of standing, frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds, and hand dexterity suitable for food preparation tasks including fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling. The ability to work in refrigerated environments is required.
Team Collaboration
The Preparation and Production Associate works closely with the Butcher Associate, Grocery Associate, and Food Operations Manager. A cooperative, dependable, and communicative approach is essential to keeping production on schedule and the department running smoothly.
