About the Role
We are seeking an experienced
Group Life & Disability Insurance Underwriter to evaluate and assess group life and disability insurance applications. The ideal candidate combines strong underwriting expertise with exceptional attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to navigate multiple systems and processes efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate, approve, modify, or decline group life and disability insurance applications.
- Review medical records, APSs, laboratory results, prescription histories, MIB reports, and other underwriting requirements.
- Assess medical, financial, occupational, and lifestyle risks in accordance with underwriting guidelines.
- Handle reinstatements, policy changes, coverage increases, and additions.
- Generate and maintain accurate Medical Information Bureau (MIB) coding.
- Communicate underwriting decisions to applicants, producers, and internal stakeholders.
- Perform quality reviews and provide guidance to less experienced underwriters.
- Maintain compliance with company guidelines, regulatory requirements, and best underwriting practices.
Preferred Experience: Group Life, Disability and Individual Life Insurance Underwriting, MIB Coding, Swiss Re Manual Exposure, APS Review, Risk Assessment and Navigating Multiple Systems
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 4 years of life and/or disability insurance underwriting experience.
- Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, risk selection, medical terminology, and insurance products.
- Experience underwriting life insurance applications; exposure to group life underwriting is highly desirable.
- Experience reviewing APSs, medical records, laboratory results, prescription histories, and MIB reports.
- Experience with MIB coding and reporting.
- Exposure to reinsurance underwriting manuals and resources, Swiss Re Underwriting Manual experience preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical, written, interpersonal, and decision-making skills.
- Strong technical aptitude with the ability to navigate multiple systems, follow detailed processes, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced production environment.

Pay: $32.00 - $35.00 per hour
