Overview
We are seeking a passionate and energetic Adaptive Physical Education Teacher to join our team. In this vital role, you will design and implement inclusive physical education programs tailored to students with diverse needs, including those with autism, developmental disabilities, visual impairments, and other special needs. Your enthusiasm and expertise will help foster physical development, motor skills, and confidence among your students while promoting an engaging and supportive learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver adaptive physical education lessons that meet individual student needs and IEP (Individualized Education Program) goals
- Assess students’ motor skills, physical abilities, and progress regularly to tailor instruction effectively
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, therapists, parents, and other specialists to coordinate comprehensive support plans
- Incorporate educational technology and adaptive equipment to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes
- Manage classroom behavior using effective behavior management strategies for students with disabilities
- Ensure safety protocols are followed during all physical activities and maintain a safe environment for all students
- Document student progress, prepare reports, and communicate regularly with families regarding their child's development
Skills
- Strong knowledge of special education law, IEP development, and instructional modifications for students with disabilities
- Experience teaching physical education in an inclusive or adapted setting
- Proficiency in behavioral therapy techniques such as applied behavior analysis (ABA) and behavioral health strategies
- Familiarity with speech therapy, music therapy, recreational therapy, and other therapeutic modalities that support physical development
- Ability to integrate learning technology and educational tools into lesson planning for enhanced engagement
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with staff, parents, and external specialists
- Experience working with individuals with autism, developmental disabilities, visual impairments, or hearing impairments is highly desirable
- Knowledge of early childhood education principles and experience working with young children in private or school settings

Pay: $58,500.00 - $75,500.00 per year
