Registered Nurse (RN) -- Step Down Contract Assignment
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Step Down care to join our dynamic healthcare team. This is a 13-weel cpmtract assignment for 3x12's night shift.
In this vital role, you will provide advanced nursing care to patients transitioning from intensive care units to less acute settings, ensuring seamless recovery and optimal health outcomes. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive clinical expertise, including experience with complex patient assessments, critical care procedures, and diverse medical conditions. Your responsibilities will encompass delivering patient-centered care, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and maintaining meticulous medical documentation in accordance with healthcare standards and regulations. Duties
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and physiological monitoring to evaluate ongoing health status.
- Administer medications and treatments accurately, including IV infusions, injections, and specialized therapies such as botulinum toxin treatments.
- Monitor patients' responses to interventions, manage acute pain, and adjust care plans accordingly to ensure comfort and safety.
- Collaborate with physicians and specialists in procedures such as cardiac catheterization, dialysis, and trauma medicine to coordinate comprehensive care.
- Maintain sterile techniques during procedures like suturing, catheterization, and specimen collection while adhering to infection control protocols.
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner for documentation of patient care activities and medical records management.
- Provide education to patients and families regarding treatment plans, medication administration, discharge instructions, and health coaching.
- Participate in triage assessments in emergency or urgent care settings to prioritize patient needs effectively.
- Support discharge planning by coordinating post-acute care services including hospice & palliative medicine or memory care programs.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations by safeguarding patient confidentiality during all documentation and communication processes.
Requirements
- Valid RN license in the applicable state or jurisdiction with current certification.
- Proven experience in step-down units
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems including Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks; familiarity with ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10) is preferred.
- Strong clinical skills encompassing advanced patient assessment, airway management, ventilator support, and aseptic techniques.
- Experience working with diverse populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, individuals with disabilities or developmental disorders.
- Knowledge of complex medical procedures such as cardiac catheterization, ostomy care, tube feeding management, and laboratory specimen processing.
- Ability to handle high-pressure situations efficiently while maintaining compassionate patient interactions.
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams across hospital medicine, outpatient clinics, or home care settings.
- Additional desirable skills include experience with neurocritical care (PICU), trauma medicine, infectious disease management, pain management strategies, and case management practices.
