We are seeking to contract a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA-C) to perform Compensation & Pension (C&P) Exams for our military Veterans at various sites across the U.S.
Length: 6–12 months (with the option to extend)
Start Date: ASAP (quick credentialing for training/onboarding)
Hours: 3 days a week - Tue, Wed, Thur - 24 hours a week, Max 77 and hour.
Location: Cheyenne, WY
Pay: Top hourly rate
Contract Description
Your services will support the Veterans Benefits Administration Medical Disabilities Examinations program. Veterans are scheduled at contracted facilities for compensation and pension exams. Practitioners may also be embedded in facilities based on need. Dedicated facilities are located in areas with large Veteran populations and high exam volumes.
C&P exams help the VA assess Veterans’ current health related to disability claims. Providers do not determine disability ratings, prescribe medications, or develop treatment plans.
Documentation from each exam is submitted to the VA for final determination.
Responsibilities
- Review medical/mental health history using electronic bookmarks related to the Veteran’s claimed condition(s).
- Conduct a one-time, non-treatment exam and capture responses through the Provider Portal web-based form.
- Complete and submit the Disability Benefits Questionnaire (DBQ) within 48 hours of each appointment.
- Number of DBQs depends on the Veteran’s claimed conditions.
- Administrative time is provided to ensure timely and compliant documentation.
- Participate in required corrections within 48 hours if requested by QA reviewers.
- Exams may range from 45 minutes to several hours, depending on complexity.
General Medical Exams
Common exams include:
- Musculoskeletal
- Cardio
- Respiratory
Ancillary services (X-rays, labs, EKGs, PFTs, ABIs) may be ordered and completed on-site or nearby.
Education/Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Nursing (NP) or completion of an approved Physician Assistant program (PA-C).
- Active, unrestricted license.
- Primary care experience required.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal skills and adaptability.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- C&P exam or VA experience preferred, but not required. Training is provided.
