Duties
- Safely operate paratransit vehicles in accordance with traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations.
- Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, including wheelchair assistance and behavior management when needed.
- Ensure passenger safety by adhering to emergency response procedures for transportation and emergency stop protocols.
- Provide exceptional customer service by communicating clearly in English (and multilingual skills if applicable), addressing passenger needs courteously, and maintaining a positive attitude.
- Respond quickly to traffic changes and adapt routes as necessary to maintain punctuality and service reliability.
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections, perform light maintenance checks, and report any mechanical issues promptly.
- Follow school policy knowledge when transporting students or seniors under specific programs, ensuring compliance with all relevant policies.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in bus driving, commercial driving, or transit bus operation; school bus driving experience is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; current commercial driver’s license (CDL) preferred.
- Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and state/local commercial driving laws.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting passengers or handling equipment safely.
- Applicant posing a Pass wheelchair securement certification is a plus.
- First aid certification (CPR training preferred) and familiarity with emergency response procedures for transportation.
- Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are advantageous for serving diverse communities.
- Experience working with children or seniors is highly desirable; patience and behavior management skills are essential.
- Demonstrated understanding of student discipline policies (if applicable) and ability to handle behavioral challenges professionally.
- Excellent writing skills for completing reports, logs, and incident documentation accurately.
- Applicant must pass a level 2 background check and drug screening.
- Applicant must be able to pass a D.O.T physical
