Refugee Youth Mentor

Position Purpose
The Refugee Youth Mentor is responsible for working one on one with refugee and immigrant youth as a trusted adult and mentor. As a youth mentor, you will follow the outlined plan for each individual youth in identifying needs and creating a service plan to address those needs with a focus on academic and family needs. Service plans include mentoring and supporting youth in areas of school, family and social aspects of life with a focus on assistance in helping youth adapt and integrate to the community. A base understanding of the juvenile justice system is preferred. The staff will work closely with the leadership staff to facilitate and run all parts of the program. Preference given to bilingual candidates that speak Dari and/or Arabic.
Schedule
Position starts ASAP; 40 hours per week
M-F; 9:00 am to 5:30 pm; occasional nights and weekends
Responsibilities
- Mentoring a case load of 15-20 youth which includes assessing needs, establishing goals, and preventing youth from antisocial behaviors.
- Assist youth in accessing community resources and understanding community systems in order to help the youth progress to independence.
- Collaborate in completing program reporting
- Attend related community-based meetings
- Case note documentation for youth interactions.
- Documentation of hours and efforts made in the community with mentees (outside of office work)
- Keeping client information confidential.
- Completing other assigned tasks as needed
Other Considerations:
-experience in working with diverse youth/youth involved in the court system
-bilingual individuals who speak Dari and/or Arabic.
- experience and/or degree/coursework in criminal justice, social work, education, psychology.
- experience with refugees, diverse and vulnerable populations.
- must have own transportation/valid driver's license for position – part of the position responsibilities is to assist in providing transportation (reimbursed per mile at federal rate); must have at least 2 years of driving experience
- must pass background check
- must be authorized to work in the United States of America
Compensation
- $19-21/hr DOE
- Full health/medical benefits offered after 30 days of employment
- Prorated paid time off and paid holiday schedule
- Retirement (403(b)) plans offered after one year of employment with 6% agency contribution
